Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Alfresco or Pergola? 25Apr 21, 2009 7:00 pm Mozzie I don't think a pergola has to look like an add on. Just use your imagination. I've had a small one done with concrete rendered pillars to match the render at the front of the house and painted the wood the same color as the colorbond. If I told people it was a standard part of the house they wouldn't know any different. Some of the Stratco colorbond pergolas have an arched or pointed roof and can look very classy - the added roof height gives a bigger impression of space than the standard ceiling height of an alfresco. This is very true. We have decided to go with the pergola option as alfrescos can be pricey if you want a big one. Our pergola will have brick rendered pillars as well and my DH is a plasterer so he will plaster the ceiling as well. You can do some really nice pergolas that will go with your house you just need to look around. Is there a building permit? RU in Victoria?
