Hi
Is it compulsory to have your exhaust fan in the toilet / WC ducted externally ?
We are building a double storey and realised that the toilet on the ground floor will not be ducted externally.
Is that legal ?
Cheers

We live in a townhouse at the moment and I don't believe the powder room fan is ducted externally and we haven't had any smell issues to date....
I am way past the stage of being able to add things to my build but if I can prove that it is a legal requirement to have it ducted externally than I can go about getting it changed, if not I think I have to give up on it....oh and send my DH to another toilet My karma ran over your dogma Re: Exhaust Fan Ducting 11Feb 16, 2009 8:54 pm hysterical & Bel,
Our builder fixed this issue by fitting in a duct to properly clear all contaminated air from the powder room (ground floor) onto the outside air. The issue was discovered by our inspector (good thing!). It wasn't obvious (that it wasn't ducted) just by looking at the exhaust. I believe it is against BCA, as mentioned in our pre-handover inspection report. As per BCA's ventilation requirements, 'contaminated air from a sanitary compartment must exhaust directly to the outside of the building by way of ducts; or exhaust into the roof space provided it is adequately ventilated by open eaves, and/or ...' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping!
