I used 3D home architect. It cost $39 off the web as a download. I found MVH very difficult to use whereas 3dHA I found very easy. I even modelled a friend's house for him who is a civil engineer and in return had my civil engineering done for free! JB Re: 3D modelling? 5Feb 12, 2009 9:08 am James Bond I used 3D home architect. Draw the external walls. Draw the internal walls. Put in windows and doors. Put on a roof. Then add what ever the hell you like.
JB Re: 3D modelling? 8Feb 12, 2009 11:30 am Google sketch up all the way, its totally free, theres HEAPS of video tutorials out on the web for it, and did I mention its free?
Seriously tho consider it 3d drawing for dummies, but if you know what your doing with it you can achieve a very complex model very easily. check it out at http://sketchup.google.com/ I quite enjoy using sketch up so you if have your plans scan and post them and i'll be glad to knock up a 3d model for you. Re: 3D modelling? 9Feb 12, 2009 4:00 pm Ahh Google, is there anything it can't do? I will give it a shot! 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' I'm interested in the 3d ha mentioned previously - do you know if there are any trial versions avail? or do I just need to pay the $39.99 (I assume this is US$) to try it?? Is it really easy?? and do I just download it? Also, do you know if I just get the home version (without the landscaping) can I upgrade later if I like it?? Re: 3D modelling? 11Feb 22, 2009 12:30 am MVh is like $5 for digital download.... and does offer limited (at the moment) landscaping and such but their boffins are doign a major release this year Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: 3D modelling? 12Feb 22, 2009 11:17 am I had given that a go too, and whilst I had better results than with sketchup, I still didnt have a lot of success. Maybe just me! Re: 3D modelling? 13Feb 22, 2009 2:14 pm Like JamesBond we also found MVH not very friendly
We use the 3dHome Architect Some of the models we have done has been uploaded in our blog We are currently trying it to design a deck and outside yard with it. Re: 3D modelling? 14Feb 22, 2009 4:31 pm MVH can be gained for free. Just follow these instructions.
http://www.panasonic.com.au/products/information.cfm?detailsID=503&contextID=27 It is only free if you download it, still costs to order the CD. Re: 3D modelling? 15Feb 22, 2009 5:36 pm Nice find netadelle. Thanks. I had a hard time starting my purchase because when you register for the site, your address is not a "required field", however when you go to "check out", it keeps asking you to update your details until you fill in the supposedly non-mandatory address. A website with bugs - who'd have thought it?

Re: 3D modelling? 17Feb 22, 2009 8:25 pm I The fact that it's free means I won't feel bad if I don't like it and give it the flick Short version: I didn't like it. I downloaded My Virtual Home despite the bugs in the website, tried it for a couple of hours, and I've just given it the flick. It might have been OK if our floor plan had only rectangular rooms on it - but there are some 45 degree walls in our plan, and it was a <canine female> to try and rotate the walls to fit. I couldn't do it. The program was "badly behaved" in other ways too - such as non-standard scrolling controls, and other things too fiddly to detail here. If you can get your walls, doors and windows positioned, this would be a great 3D visualisation tool. Next I'll try the Google thingy.... Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Happy campers. Re: 3D modelling? 18Feb 22, 2009 10:04 pm I tried a program called IMSI floorplan 3D, which was ok, a little buggy but it is pretty powerful. I've just recently aquired 3d Home Architect Design Suite Deluxe 8 and I have to say it's very easy to use and has just about all aspects you would need for home design and landscaping. I can't think of many things that could be improved in it. Re: 3D modelling? 19Feb 23, 2009 12:22 am I wouldn't call MVH home easy, but you can do almost anything once you get the hang of it. I have built maybe ten homes in it and can now build a full home in around an hour - it just takes practice, practice and more practice. Personally I think it's worth it. |
