Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 11, 2009 11:51 pm Hi Guys
Just wondering if the builders you have delt with are negotiable on price? Are they generally tight and wouldn't discount on their list price? or they are open to a few a grand discount given the current economic climate? I think everything is negotiable.. it all depends on your negotiation skills Best of Luck. Re: Are builders open to negotiations on price? 3Feb 12, 2009 8:03 am Only if they want your business, if they know a couple of other customers will lock in, they wont bother. Your card could be showing seriousness to committ and telling em you've got other tenders, similar house size and price .. ask them what's the best they can do .. remember the sales consultant cant do much .. you have to ask him to request their headoffice or something to see if something can be worked out or discounted further .. mostly they throw in more stuff rather than just taking $$ off the price ..
Always look at the tender n go holy cr@apppppp thats a lot and its stretching my budget n all .. be ready to walk off .. dont make em feel you'd stretch n still want it .. house hunting is an emotional decision, unfortunately with people who are there for business .. so there's the disconnect! I haven't finalised my tender with anyone yet, but i intend to pull all these tricks tee hee! --- I don't have a signature - just this sentence saying that I don't have one - that'll do! Re: Are builders open to negotiations on price? 4Feb 12, 2009 8:18 am In the bare home as offered there is a very, very low margin... if you push hard at that level you will fail.
In the additions and improvements area the margins are very high and you can push hard. I got to say they really do make a lot of extras on these you should try to knock them
down. I was quoted 7k for a bi fold door with my builder. I found out which supplier they use rung them and they quoted me $4700 for the same door. I rung them back they claim their was a price drop they don't know about and all of a sudden the door was 5.5k. Price check everything thats the best way to get some $ off. I can tell you it's often when your doing jobs you know the person up the road just got the same thing 1k cheaper because they checked your prices against someone else.
