Just wondering of those of you who are, or did build with a bulk builder, did you get your tiling done by the company or your own tiler. I guess the same applies with the carpet?
Thanks.

We did our homework and got quotes (for the similar kind of carpet and tiles used by the builders) from few places,,, but for us builders were still cheap. Re: tiling 3Feb 11, 2009 8:19 pm I would have thought that doing it after handover is the cheaper option - no builders margin. Also that's what every sales rep has told me too (including Clarendon reps). We are only having our wet area, balcony and patio tiles done through the builder. All carpet and floorboards to be done after handover. Re: tiling 4Feb 11, 2009 8:45 pm Hi we haven't built yet but are doing the carpet and tiling aafter settlement. My partner and dad and doing the tiling themselves (we did get a quote by a tiler which was cheaper than the builder) and the carpet wasn't offered by henley unless it was a package. 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! I have compared prices with a few stores and found that they are very similar, so why not doing it through the builder, less hassle Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: tiling 8Feb 12, 2009 11:07 am If you know a tiler who will do it for free or on the cheap, do it after handover. The amount of credit you get back from the builder will then allow you to buy better tiles as it includes tile allowance + labour (well at least our builder was nice enough to give the full credit)
Wet areas (bathrooms/ensuites/balconies) have to be done by the builder due to warranty complications, even if your tiler is licenced for waterproofing Stevep79 & Principessa Finished building Wisdom Homes Impression 33mkII in The Ponds, Sydney http://lilypadintheponds.blogspot.com Re: tiling 9Feb 12, 2009 1:31 pm claego I am doing timber floor and carpet through the builder I have compared prices with a few stores and found that they are very similar, so why not doing it through the builder, less hassle @Claego... I had the same experience with the pricing of tiles and carpets, mainly coz i think if we wud buy the tiles, we wud have to pay full amount whereas builders have that bargaining power (although not sure if they wud pass that profit to us or not). Am i thinking right?? And we did not know any tiler who could do it for cheaper rates... so it builders price worked out to be the better one... and hassle free,,,, Re: tiling 10Feb 12, 2009 8:50 pm We have decided to do tiling and carpet after handover. We didn't want to be restricted by the range of tiles offered by the builder. We also didn't trust their tradesmen to get it right as well.
I was told by the builders' sales rep that 80% of people use the builder to do floor coverings and the other 20% do it themselves. Troy Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq.
