It will impact on the Australian life style more than other countries as we have had it too good for too long. If you have a look on real estate .com there are more listing for resale vacant land? Those that brought as an investment now want to get rid of it ASAP. Unemployment is going up and that’s a fact. No job, no money, no build. Builders need work too. So it’s a vicious circle. Why do you think the government is giving us (well hopefully) 32k? They want you to build to keep jobs which have a multiplying affect on our economy. If you are building now thinking you are going to make money on your home/Investment, you won’t. Well not for 5 years IMPO. Having said that now is the time to negotiate a deal to allow for a fall in land & house prices. Also it now important to choose well. Remember cash is king. Banks don’t do the 105% finance anymore. Ever wondered why? Also did you get the $900 from the government? When the Government starts giving you money, you know something wrong. There are many reasions why people build a house. Not just economic ones. Having a secure place to live. No land lord standing over you. This is the real asset. A place to enjoy your lifestyle. When things go bad you will always have a place to live. I have not chosen to build for economic reasions. I have chosen a place and land that suits my lifestyle. Besides every King must have his own castle. The grant is a bonus. Whether you build or not is up to you, but don’t do it because “you never looses on real estate” or “ the grant will end soon”.
