Re: Bricks and Windows...any advice? 12Feb 09, 2009 10:33 pm billdsl watching the building go up across from my, like ed says it looks pretty normal, they just sit the windows in the area with some loosely held nails probably to allow for any adjustments after brickwork is laid it should be fine ...not really the correct way to go, I laid bricks for 20+yrs and never finished for windows like this. Believe me, no matter how plumb & straight the brickwork is, there will always be a gap (no matter how small) when a window or door is set to the brickwork. I always insisted on windows and doors installed before starting a panel. re: the gaps...I'm guessing they have left this gap because of the way the bond has worked. By this I mean they have laid to this point and found if this gap is here it makes the joint size in the panel (to the left of the window) an ideal and aesthetically more appealing result. Nothing looks worse than huge perpends (vertical mortar joints), which can occur, especially when the quality of brick is lacking a little and are undersize etc. Dependant on what is on the right hand side, I probably would have split the difference (6-8mm gap both sides) and asked for a small quad to be installed to take this up.
