Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 07, 2009 8:40 am Help! I need some opinions!
I'm trying to decide if I should get the builders to do the plumbing for a water tank to the toilets or not. I'm not getting the tank through the builder, I will get it at a later date. The sales person also can't give me a proper estimate on doing this the plumbing on it's own is not in their sales books - her manager doesn't even know, anyone know how much it may cost? edit: vic i think its a great idea getting it plumbed up for use in your toilets and laundry when you do get the tank, save a lot of water i cant comment on the costs, its costing us around 5k for the water tank supply and install, with the relevant plumbing and equipment. i think thats a pretty average cost in qld Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Consider size of tank you want and where it will be located. In SA, I must connect the RWT to the toilet. Builder has a plumbing point and an exterior power point in the back wall as standard. But coz I cannot fit a RWT there, I must put the RWT in the backyard (about 5m away from house). I don't want to have plumbing coming out the back wall and go down underground to the tank (looks unsightly). So, I end up paying about $600 for plumbing and power in the slab and to the location of the tank (so can't see pipes/power cables). If you can locate the tank outside the toilet, it's easy. I would get builder to do the plumbing and power supply, and do the RWT yourself. Chris Re: Water tank to toilets? 5Feb 07, 2009 11:23 am we were going to get the builder to just plumb it all up for us and add the watertank ourselves later, but this was too hard for him
so we ended up doing it all thru him; it was cheaper than we expected at $3500 incl tank (can't remember how much it holds though sorry), installation and plumbing to 2 toilets. And a tap on the tank (for watering gardens etc). It also includes a valve thing which switches the toilet flushing to mains if there is not enough water in the tank. (rather than filling up the tank with mains water, which we didn't want as it means you can't legally use it for the garden I believe.) Re: Water tank to toilets? 7Feb 07, 2009 2:20 pm Thanks everyone!
Wanna Hey Lisa, PD are charging us around $450 to do the plumbing to the toilets and we'll then get the tanks afterwards ourselves. Congrats on the land by the way Thank Wanna that's exactly what I want to do, I feel much better knowing that the $2k estimate is WAY over the top! (which the sale person said it probably was, but better to be safe than sorry) So I assume I will also need a powerpoint out near where I plan to put the tank for a pump? Do I really need to get the builder to do this? The only way to do it post build is to either build on stumps or have it prerouted through the concrete slab to a single mains point outside of the slab that can be replaced by a tank supply later on. Quote: Our concern at this point is that it may affect obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy at completion. They are going to talk to the construction manager on Monday. I know that Wanna and one other person on here are both getting it done... lets hope its sorted out on Monday. -scratches head- 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Decided that in the end it was not going to be worth it anyway, once you add in the cost of the tank, pump and installation it didn't make sense. Add to the fact that it doesn't rain anyway!
