We don't want a huge eye sore so was thinking about having two 2500 tanks and putting them under the eaves not in view but looking at prices on the internet that's going to be the expensive option. Our builder was saying something about having an underground tank, I'm guessing that's also an expensive option. Where would we fit a 5000 litre tank not in view Re: What size water tank? 6Feb 07, 2009 4:56 am 5000 litres aint much!
We're looking at putting in 2 32,000 litres underground water tanks... Rule of thumb.. For every 1mm on the roof per sqm = 1 litre in the tank... If you have 100sqm of roof catchment... And you get 10mm of rain, that will be 1000 litres of rainwater... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: What size water tank? 7Feb 07, 2009 8:33 am you are right 5000 litres is not much at all, we have a 25,000 litre tank and are putting in another 10,00o liitre one on our house and a two 5,000 litres ones on our garage as the garage is 20 meters long finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: What size water tank? 8Feb 07, 2009 9:17 am We have 2 x 5 1/2 thousand slim lines going in. and its harvesting 100% of our roof water. by ur figures u should collect around 140,000 ltrs per year, if as already mentioned u can get all downpipes into the tank or tanks. u can get tanks that will take well over 140,000 ltr if u have somewhere to put it. next issue is how u get that water thru ur house - means pressure pump etc. if u want to be self sufficient in household water, it will cost u far more than scheme water ie capital cost of tank/tanks, pump, downpipe connection, filters, pump operating cost. i am o/b atm & r using a dual rainwater/scheme system. if u look at o/b forum under thread "Our last o/build project & still great fun" u will see a pic of our 90,000 above ground tank. cost in WA is around $8,000 plus another $2,000 for extra plumbing, pump etc. we r doing this to have rainwater thru most of house, & cos i'm worried about future availability & quality of scheme water over next 20 years - about my life span left if i'm lucky. hope this gives u a few ideas. cheers tony 18 74715 From what I know about water tanks (I've been working with a client on them for a few years now) is this - The concrete can last a lifetime if they don't crack for some… 2 6479 If you can calculate the reasonable charged head from let's say 100mm below the gutter to the top of where the vertical riser's horizontal discharge pipe will be, that… 11 14445 |
