Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 04, 2009 5:02 pm Dear all,
i have just spoke to the developer's contractors ( Opticomm , Techlife and AccessTV) recently. the guys said if u sign up for the standard fibre optical connection package($660) , i can get all free to air TV signals to all TV points wihtout antena, connectivity to pay TV services without the need of satallite disc, 6 months free high speed 25Mbps internet and phone service from internode. and i believe hooking up to stuff like Tivo will not be a problem . however, the standard connection package does not include lead-in conduit from stree to your house , this will be additional $400 for conduit installation. they recommended to Smart wire the house as well. just in case someone is still not totally clear about how to make use of the optical fibre ****** under the street. for those who have moved in, i also wonder what are you doing with you TV and internet services? what is your experience with smart wiring? ( e.g. cost, making life easier...) please correct me if any of the info are not aacurate/correct. Depends on where you are in Craigieburn, we're in Highlands (Stage 60) and it's covered by Telstra, Optus and iPrimus DSLAM so we can definitely get ADSL2+ Have a look at this map: http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/viewex ... hange=CRBN I don't think any of the estate in Craigieburn have fibre to home setup, might be wrong though Re: High Speed (25Mbps) Internet at Alamanda, Point Cook 5Feb 05, 2009 1:01 pm I believe that Opticomm/Internode are providing similar connectivity at University Hill in Bundoora. I'm quite looking forward to it. Re: High Speed (25Mbps) Internet at Alamanda, Point Cook 6Feb 05, 2009 1:54 pm sireza Quote: How do you find out about the internet connection in Craigieburn ? I'm not too sure about the availability of ADSL2+ to these areas. The reason is because you need to be a maximum of 4Km away from the Exchange. Fingers crossed Re: High Speed (25Mbps) Internet at Alamanda, Point Cook 8Feb 06, 2009 11:48 am i have had futher update from Opticomm today.
fo Alamanda estate, the 6 month free inter from internode will be at 5Gbytes limit/month. speed at 25Mbps download / 1Mbps upload ( i believe this is pretty fast we can get in Melbourne at this stage, and internode website said the average is about 10 Mbps), after that you just need to deal with internode with their available plans e.g. 89.9 for 20G etc....... i still waiting from them to see if ISP is changeable or not after 6 months. Damon Re: High Speed (25Mbps) Internet at Alamanda, Point Cook 9Feb 06, 2009 11:53 am Sorry but what is ISP? Possibly, but not the way you imagine. Unlike Telstra, Opticomm are creating what is known as an "open access" fibre network. This means that any ISP (Internet Service Provider) is able to provide services to users that are connected to the network. However, it also means that an ISP needs to specifically create backhaul, i.e. a connection from your estate to their network. In this instance, Internode have committed to the backhaul. In future, more ISPs may also create a backhaul, which means you would be able to use an alternative. However, Internode is rated as one of the best ISPs in Australia, so I'd recommend staying with them. As you'll be on fibre, you are almost certainly guaranteed 25mbs. It does not degrade with distance like ADSL does. The Internode website is discussing relative speeds of their ADSL product, which is not applicable to FTTH connections. (leakes roadf) Currently on ADSL, but if you look on http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/viewexchange.php?Exchange=TNIT, it shows there are limited ports available for ADSL2.
