Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 02, 2009 7:19 pm Hi everyone,
Does anyone have or have used a cedar (timber) garage door? We were wondering what the advantages/disadvantages were of a cedar garage door over a colorbond garage door? The colorbond garage door in our current house is very noisy when it opens/closes and also makes some noise when it is windy. Do you think it will be the same with the timber garage door, considering a timber door is probably heavier than a colorbond door? Thanks for your help Re: Cedar (Timber) garage doors 2Feb 02, 2009 8:43 pm First thing I would think about if we were to do one would be
: maintenance Which direction is the door facing? Will it get a lot of exposure? In saying that, I think the door will actually not radiate as much heat into the garage as a colorbond door and they do look stunning. Timber look is another option if you are not excited about having to re-vanish the door every 6 - 12 months. Re: Cedar (Timber) garage doors 3Feb 02, 2009 9:43 pm as ozroo said I'd really look into the maintenance of it. We were going to go with a cedar garage door but it was quite a lot more expensive and then the sales manager also admitted there's a lot more work involved in looking after them and keeping them looking good. He said here in WA that tended to start within the first 2 years.. Rellie posted a photo of her lovely jarrah look garage door. I think it looks terrific. but again it depends on the manufacturer. they all seem to differ.B n D was the brand we had the choice of and we felt their timber look doors didn't look that realistic. But I've seen some other brands that look great. Re: Cedar (Timber) garage doors 4Feb 03, 2009 7:39 am Thanks ozzroo and kexkez.
I agree, it depends on the manufacturer, some of them don't look realistic. The ones we saw did not look that great so that it why we are thinking of going for the timber door. Does anyone know what is required to be done to maintain the timber door? Is it a one day job, one week job? We also have timber windows and timber front door. So i guess, we will have to maintain those as well... Not sure what direction our house faces... Which direction is good/bad? I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements. I’ve sanded back and oiled the frames with sikkens. My plan is to box up inside… 0 6510 It's a classic case of aesthetics subjugating function where style takes precedence over practicality. 3 3942 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15907 |
