Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 29, 2009 9:18 pm Yey! I finaly know how to post pictures on here thanks to some lovely people. It was all too confusing for me We settled on the block on Tue 13th Jan and by the next day it was scraped and plumbed! 2 days later it was all boxed up awaiting the pour! Keep up the photos now you know how to post them. Re: Taffy"s House 4Jan 31, 2009 6:16 am This is what I've chosen. On the left Laminex Cocoa Nougat for the kitchen and laundry benchtops. On the right Parbury Evening Tigris for the bathroom and ensuite benchtops. In the middle Parbury Wallaby which will be done in a two pack gloss with routed doors. The tile is a polished porcelain in an Ivory colour with a fleck through it. They will be 600x600 on the floor and 600x300 up the walls, this way the grout lines should all line up! I am not having feature tiles this time just going to cap them off with a chrome trim. For some reason my pics have gone You will be able to see everything further down the thread as the house progresses Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Taffy"s House 5Jan 31, 2009 6:36 pm Hi Taffy
Congrats on the commencement of construction!!! I noticed in the second picture you posted what appears to be coverings over the slab area.. is this covering the waffle pods? And did they remove that before the concrete went over? Thanks! Franco Re: Taffy"s House 6Jan 31, 2009 6:49 pm I think I am having what is called a raft slab not a waffle one.
All my previous slabs were done this way. They put boxing around it and mesh on top and then pour the concrete. I think the back plastic is for a damp course. Talked to Boral and they came and had a look, said it wasnt anything to worry about it was a staining on the face of the brick which will wash off. They have a chemical to do it so thats good. I just read your reply in my litchen thread and found this thread on page 3....l log in to post and it was gone, l'm thinking wtf? lol..... The house (well the slab l should say, lol) looks great....so you think the roof will go up this week if the trusses are up already? You've got a decent size block it seems too? how big is it? Love your tile and laminate colours....same with bricks (which brick is it?)...what colour roof, gutter, fasica etc are you having? Details woman, give me details! lol Oh, and you must post your floorplan too! You mentioned you had concerns with your tiling and are seeing the tiler, are ya having doubts about your colours?? I found the tiling/laminates fairly easy this time around and the exterior very hard to nut out. I think we changed our colours at least 3-4 times lol... I saw my BIL tonight, he'll be doing all our electrical work, so we were nutting out lights, power points, and all that stuff. We spent 2 hours on it Didn't realise how involved it was! lol..... I hope my plans are going well too...l called GJ Lewis today to advise some changes, (thought l'd do it now rather than after l got the tender) but my consultant chick had an RDO , so it's a waiting game as to when the tender will be ready. I was hoping on Friday, but l reckon it'll be more like next week. Waiting, waiting and more waiting.....arrrggghhhhh! Re: Taffy"s House 9Feb 08, 2009 2:41 pm Thorney 20 question time OK details.... The roof and gutters are monument the facia and windows are paperbark the garage and front door will also be paperbark. The bricks are from boral called graphite. I am a bit dissapointed with the bricks as the colour batch came back really different from what I picked, they were actually meant to look like the gj lewis display home the one thats open at the moment on the corner. They were meant to have a grayish tinge to them but my batch came back more of a fawn colour. Actually hubby likes them and I am getting used to them, it was just not what I pictured. I think once they have been cleaned up they will look quite nice. At least I have something different now I am going to put monument colour lights each side of the garage and portico, I will also have a water feature in the front in a charcoal colour, and maybe a charcoal colour drive, so this should tie in the roof colour a bit more. Its all happend quite quick only about 3 weeks of actuall building work to get to this stage, I'm so excited Here is a picture of where were up to now. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ lol, ya 20 questions indeed, lol. The house is looking great mate...the bricks look fine to me. sorry to hear that they are not what they thought it would look like though. And yeah, we nearly got fooled with our beicks too. We liked the cleveland initally, dark reddy browns and browns, but when Boral ordered us a sample box of it and the Ripponlea as we couldn't decide (agree more like it, lol) on which one to go for ( hubby really liked the cleveland and l wanted the ripponlea), when we saw them, the cleveland came back looking virtually all red and no dark browns through it ...so the ripponlea it was . we made sure to go out and physically see some houses as well to get a true idea of what they come out like. Did you pick your bricks purely off the display wall and not check out some houses yourselves? In any case, it's a wee bit late now eh? lol...l still think the house looks great...and only after 3 weeks too! No wonder your excited! Hmm, and where is the floorplan woman?? How did you go with your tiles? I hope you got it sorted out. Only a few questions this time, lol... Re: Taffy"s House 11Feb 08, 2009 5:22 pm Hi Taffy,
Your house looks great! I do actually like your brick colour. (Boral graphite)? And the bricks go well with the offwhite mortar. Great Choice. The Laminex colour for kitchen and bathroom benchtop is nice too! Glad to hear that within 3 weeks u are already at this stage. It is quick! Keep us updated on your building. Stephen Williams Landing Stage 10 - Kingwell Neighbourhood Re: Taffy"s House 12Feb 08, 2009 8:00 pm Thanks guys,
I agonised over the bricks spent days and days driving around looking for the perfect one! I checked the display walls and then got a sample pack in ,which when I drove around looking at houses built with the same brick they all looked the same! thats why I was dissapointed when I got mine that they looked so different. Ah well too late now I didnt want to hold things up by changing them. I think they will look fine, just be aware if anyone wants boral graphite in the future they probably wont look like mine I have decided on my tiles and locked them in and paid a deposit. They are a polished porcelain 600x600 and I am using them everwhere so hope I dont get a different batch like the bricks Now I have to decide on the internal paint colours, dont know what to do about the doors and trim whether to have different colours or to have lighter shade or darker shade of the walls. Got a few sample pots so I will be busy painting in the next few days providing I can find some plasterboard in some scrap bins off the building sites Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Taffy"s House 13Feb 08, 2009 8:27 pm Taffy Thanks guys, I agonised over the bricks spent days and days driving around looking for the perfect one! She is really really good. She'll give you great advice *** to what paint will look good and what to do with the trims. Alatalo may not use Solver, but all ya got to do is that the Solver sample and get it matched to whatever the brand Alatalo goes through. It's good you got sample pots, but that still may not give you a true idea of how the paint will affect the colouring of the tiles and laminates on a big scale. Summer will know that. Had it not been for her, my bathroom would've ended up looking very yellow-peachish which is not what l wanted at all... Oh, and please excuse my constant typo's....l think too fast for my fingers and am too lazy to spellcheck properly lol Re: Taffy"s House 15Feb 21, 2009 8:49 pm YEY we have plaster!
