Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 29, 2009 7:29 pm We have our tiles going in this week and we have been quoted to have the skirting tiles using a full tile. The only problem is that they are 300x300mm. I don't think I've seen a skirting tile so high from the floor, but they have allowed it.
Just wondering what others would do in this situation... Go with the cut in half tile, or stay with the full size one. the walls will be a light colour and the tiles are dark choccy brown. Thanks everyone Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Cor@l Homes on a flat 4473m block!! And lov'n it!!! Re: Skirting tiles... half or full tile? 2Jan 29, 2009 7:36 pm Think I would cut it in half and go 150 high.
This may blend in a bit better with the timber skirting, It will be interesting to see what my tiler suggest when its our turn. I hadnt thought about it before. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Skirting tiles... half or full tile? 3Jan 29, 2009 7:43 pm Is it possible to get the same tile in a 200 x 300 or have it cut to 200mm high which is the 'standard' height? I had the same reservations about a skirting tile being square rather than rectangular and so high off the ground, but the tiling people tell me that the norm is to cut to 200mm high regardless of what size your tile is. Re: Skirting tiles... half or full tile? 4Jan 29, 2009 7:46 pm we have 300x600 tiles in our wet areas; our skirts aren't even half a tile high though ... probably about as high as the skirting boards in the other areas ... in fact I just went and measured them as I was curious after reading this! They are 10cm Re: Skirting tiles... half or full tile? 5Jan 29, 2009 7:48 pm I would think it depends how big the room or space is.
If it's the loo and you can’t swing a cat in there, the 300 x 300 might be over powering, if it’s a bit bigger, I wouldn’t have a problem with the larger tile. Re: Skirting tiles... half or full tile? 7Jan 29, 2009 7:55 pm I agree with Michelle. If its a decent sized room, then the 300*300 wouldnt look bad. However if its a very small room, you are better off cutting it in half Re: Skirting tiles... half or full tile? 8Jan 29, 2009 7:55 pm In our recent "shed renovation", the bathroom/laundry/toilet tiles are 330mm square.
We had tons of them and I had allowed for a full skirting tile. However, the tiler convinced me to let him cut them, even though it was more work for him. Of course it looks fine and I think most people would be more comfortable with the 1/2 tile look. I really wanted to try something different though and I think I wish he'd just gone along with my suggestion. So, I think it depends on how keen you are to do the full tiles......I'm sure it will look fine and be just that little bit distinctive...... Guess this probably doesn't help...... Cheers zeke Re: Skirting tiles... half or full tile? 9Jan 29, 2009 7:56 pm I’d go half then.
What colour? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Skirting tiles... half or full tile? 11Jan 29, 2009 8:06 pm So it’s the brown up the wall?

We would never have thought to do this, except it was done in the display version of our house and we had a copy of the addenda for it so we could duplicate the paint colours.
