Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 25, 2009 8:40 am We are almost certainly going to use Daniel Robertson bricks in London Blue (I can't put up a pic cos there isn't one one their website(!) but when I get one from Cosham I will).
Has anyone in Melbourne built with these - and be willing to let us know your address so we can drive by and see them in their glorious houseyness? Re: Daniel Robertson bricks 3Jan 29, 2009 6:55 am We'll be using daniel rob's bricks, hoping to start in June-ish...we'll be going with the Buff, love the quality of these bricks, although expensive we'll be saving on the labour as I'm a brickie of 20+yrs.
Unlike the mass producers, I've been looking around and I think you can actually pick a home that has been built with DR's, can't wait to make a start on our new house. From what I've seen you won't be disappointed. We're from country Vic, and were visiting Melbourne a couple of weeks ago. Mark O from DR was excellent and was more than happy to show us around and explain things (more to my partner as I know more than I probably want to about bricks!!) The blend we're using has changed a little, but still loving what samples we have. Re: Daniel Robertson bricks 5Jan 29, 2009 8:40 am ...dependant upon your supplier how well they look after you, anywhere up to $1.10 per brick (cost of brick only, this doesn't include any labour). It may be more with different blends etc, I also believe the 50mm (roman) series is more expensive to buy too.
Overall, probably about 20-30% more expensive, but honestly, I think the finished product is worth it. (by the way, I don't work for them, I'm using them on my place and also a bricklayer by trade) To all those using volume builders etc...I seen one post that was an extra $8000 to just upgrade to DR's...this sounds like alot to me. If an average house is lets just say 10000 bricks, realistically to upgrade to DR's shouldn't cost more than $2-3K, and I would be asking some serious questions and want to see some paperwork to be justifying this sort of increase. Re: Daniel Robertson bricks 8Jan 29, 2009 11:43 am re above.....
I should have stated that this increase of 2-3K was from solid brick prices to DR's, so maybe even double that for generosity's sake, for the cheaper range of extruded (wire cut) bricks upgrading to DR's......it's still quite a long way from 8K...!! Re: Daniel Robertson bricks 9Jan 29, 2009 12:46 pm Our home will be DR's Hawthorn Tan Blend. I absolutely LOVE this brick, and nothing comes close. I can spot a DR brick house just from driving around...they always look so stunning (note: My opinion!), and so much variation between the brick which is the look I am after.
I'm paying $7.7K for an upgrade to a (roughly) 41 square double story, brick above garage and windows house. I did have a figure for the number of bricks used and I think it may be around 17,000 but don't quote me on that! I had a quick look for it, but couldn't find it... Worth every cent! I was not going to compromise on anything once I knew Henley built with DR. This was my first upgrade option, and the last to 'go' if things needed culling to keep in budget! You won't be disappointed Beebie. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Re: Daniel Robertson bricks 11Jan 29, 2009 2:18 pm I'm using DR bricks and they rock......
compare them to the other bricks i see they only have 3 holes in them compared to 10 holes in the cheaper bricks. i'll see if i can post up some pics so you guys can see. ---->Some say that a recession is when your neighbour loses his/her job while a depression is when you lose yours!<----- Re: Daniel Robertson bricks 12Jan 29, 2009 4:59 pm We are hoping to use the PGH Greenway which are similar quality
to the DR bricks. They are a solid brick and created in the old style. Hoping its closer to $6k to upgrade. Very nice bricks and as others have mentioned, you can notice homes in the better bricks.
