Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 24, 2009 9:39 pm We are having lighter coloured tiles in the 'living' type busy areas of our house. Now my major concern is I am fanatical about clean grout. So... can they be sealed and does it work? How often do you seal it? Will the grout stay nice and clean, or, should I go for a creamy type tile (as opposed to off whiteish) and then have a cream type colour grout so as to look as though it's wearing better and the dirty dosn't show up quite so much?
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks. themax Re: grout getting dirty 2Jan 24, 2009 9:48 pm I have never found any products that will prevent the grout from getting dirty (especially with children around).
I prefer the light colour so I always clean it and find that a toothbrush with a bit of jiff on it will remove any spills like coffee etc. It is really a choice of going for the light colour and keeping it clean regularly, or go for a very dark colour so you don't have to worry so much. Although I'll also be interested to see if anyone can suggest something to help keep it clean. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: grout getting dirty 3Jan 24, 2009 9:55 pm I'd rather have a light colour and see that it needs cleaning than a dark colour that doesn't show the dirt but it's still there!
I scrubbed all of our grout on my hands and knees in this rental when we moved in because I cleaned a tiny part and realised the grout was actually cream and not grey as it first appeared - gross Re: grout getting dirty 4Jan 24, 2009 11:13 pm themax, this has been discussed in a few threads. check out htis one ;

Something like that anyway.
Her suggestion is to also pay extra to get the tiles laid closer together so you have minimal grout anyway. But the issue you're talking about it exactly why I wanted timber in our living areas! My memory of my mother when i was on a child is she was always on her hands and knees bleaching the grout and scrubbing it with a toothbrush.. i did not want this in my future!
