Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 51Mar 03, 2009 3:05 pm Nothing to report on sadly.
Last week frame was done in less than 2 days. Then roof tresses were lifted on to roof. It has stayed like that for a week now. Dont wanna drive out there and be disappointed. Will go out tomorrow and hopefully see some action. SS said last week that we should have a roof by this week. Not sure exactly if that means that roof tresses will be connected or if we will have our colourbond by this week. No sign of gutters etc yet tho. And I think the electrician is supposed to come in as well first. Did do some round-uping on the weekend. We have alot of weeds getting pretty big around the rock walls. We may have held things up coz we did ask for our downlights to be changed over to crome instead of white. Who would know that this was going to be a $500 variation just for one tiny thing. They would have millions of stock of these anyway. We also forgot an outdoor powerpoint as well. We did ask for this but it was not added to our list. Next time for sure we will NOT be pressured into signing our electricial before we have more than 2 secs to think about it. For first home owners we were so overwelmed with the whole thing - the whole day really. Anyways now that is out I shall get back to work. Stay tuned. Who knows they may even be some action at our house as I speak Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 52Mar 04, 2009 7:46 am Hopefully soon you will see some more action !
I must remember to do a drive by next time I'm out there, might be popping out there in 2wks to see the parents so I will try and have a looksie ! Yeah, damn variations!! Any change to the plan will incur a variation. $500 for non-structural, $1000 for structural. Very expensive down lights now hey ! So you have changed to the chrome then ? Thats what we've got too. I asked my hubby if it was easy for you guys to change them over later on, but he said its much easier to get it done when they build, so you don't have to pull things out of the roof and ruin any painting etc. Obviously being a brand new house you want to enjoy it as just that, and not have to worry about changing things over later yourself. Outdoor power point could have gone in later too, a sparky could have drilled one in, but again, why not change it now when you're paying for the variation anyways! I think powerpoints outside is a must !! We actually sat down and drew up where we want everything and what we want before we met with Stratus. Then we knew what to tell him, but we made a few changes the morning of our appt as we changed our plans from having heaps of downlights, to going with the standard batten holder, and then we will pull that out and put up Track downlights, which we can get for cost cos my sister works for a lighting company. I agree, its very overwhelming, even for non-1st home owners. I guess though for 1st time builders it definately is. Its hard to try and visualise everything & how it will all come together, and there are so many decisions to make. And as we know, its not easy to change your mind later without being stung for it, so you want to try and make the right decision first up to save on variation fees. But of course these things do come up, and you don't really have much time to decide. But hey - its all done now & soon you will have your house !!! What is your building time ? Are you going to move in straight away ? Building in Brisbane SW Suburbs Started on site with plumbing on 30/3 - Lock up 2/5 - 15/6 Recd Fixing Invoice - 18/6 Painter to start ! Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 53Mar 04, 2009 9:31 am We knew all about the variation fee for any changes but we didnt think that changing from white to crome downlights was much of a change at all.
Anyway we know we have buggered up our electrical but all we can do now is fix it. Definately is better getting them to do it while they are in there already. Outdoor powerpoints are definately a must for us. Especially for xmas time for lights. It is hard now working out what to call our house in progress. Before it was lets go to the block now it is lets go to the soon to be house. Love it cant wait. We will move in after we have all the flooring, driveways etc done. Lucky we have a turf farm owner in the family so that will come in handy. And my brother is a landscaper so just about all set in that dept. Building time is 180 days. Got a letter in the mail stating that they have used up 9 out of the 10 days that were allocated for weather delays. Claiming 23rd Jan - 4th Feb which is wierd as they were actually working on some of these days. And definately was no rain in this time. They didnt actually ask for more time though. We will see what happens Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 54Mar 05, 2009 9:42 am Drive by yesterday saw roof trusses are on. Yay! Finally looks like a house now not just some timber and concrete.
Gutters and fascias have been delivered. Wonder if they will go up today? Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 55Mar 05, 2009 11:44 am WOW !!!!!
I bet you guys are just amazed at the progress !! From looking at a block for all this time, and now you have a skeleton house !!! Did you take photos ??? How lucky are you to have a turf owner in the family !!! Hmmm...might ask for details when we are ready to landscape!!! Can't wait to hear more about your progress ! Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 56Mar 05, 2009 11:53 am wow I know we both made the trip out there. Photos did we ever. We took like 50 or so. I even took photos of the rubbish bin and the box full of the metal brackets. How sad am I? All I can say is that we will have a fairly massive collection of photos in the end.
Next trip may be with the boss's tomorrow (we are like a family) otherwise on the weekend. Bring on the colourbond roof!!! Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 57Mar 06, 2009 3:28 pm Hey Megzy,
