Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 24Feb 02, 2009 10:50 am Thanks coljacqld. The only structural change was the extension to the garage. This will allow room for us to drive through our shed using the single rolladoor at the back of the garage.
We are really excited. Our land has been scraped now. Damn we have very very red soil. Now the worrying begins with how to protect our bricks/render etc from the red soil stain. Hopefully this week will bring plumbing, boxing and slab poured. Only one can hope. Lets pray for good weather in Brisbane. Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 25Feb 06, 2009 12:09 pm Well no real news from me but here are some photos of our site. Hope these work!
No slab was poured this week but has been booked in for next. I remember walking to my friends place after school, we would have to scrape all the red clay/mud off of our shoes, worse if it was raining. So good idea to get landscaped !!!
You've been scraped all right! Hopefully you'll get some more movement next week, can't wait to see pics! I was meant to be heading out there this weekend to see my parents, but now with the dog, they are coming to us. But I will get out there soon & will do a driveby ! Looking great so far.. can't wait to see more pics.. As for the red soil stain.. maybe you can concrete a path right around your house? Then when its raining you can walk around the house without getting muddy feet/shoes, and stop the mud coming into the house. That is what we plan on doing.. (though hubby is a concreter, so cheaper for us ).. We have very light sandy loam, with a reddy coloured brick.. I am not sure it would stop all of the discoloration, but would stop a lot of it. - also we have mounds of termites on our block, so we dont want gardens near the house anyway.. just an idea.. -Sha Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 31Feb 12, 2009 8:42 am More progress. We have plumbing and an electicity box. Woo hoo Its all happening too quick now. I am having daily drive byes coz I dont wanna miss anything. I will try and post more pics. I never seem to have much luck with them tho.
Real shame that the foamy white stuff did not arrive yesterday, I was hoping that it was going to be boxed up for a concrete pour tomorrow. It will now prob be Monday. Valentines day plans may be out the window now. I did have high hopes for a picnic on our block. I will have to try and think of a back up plan very quickly. They may surprise us... Yes Sha we were always going to get the concrete paths done. Im not a fan myself. I also like little pebbles and pavers. We do have a pressure washer which may get some of the stain off its its bad at hand over. We will see how it all goes still a bit of time to think about it. I will try and post more pics. I never seem to have much luck with them tho. Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 32Feb 12, 2009 9:27 am Lets try this.

One is yet to be delivered im thinking coz there is a MCon house being built next door to us. Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 33Feb 12, 2009 11:01 am Megzy,
Great to hear. I drove past our block this morning and there were two blokes digging away and a truck full of pipes! So I assume that the plumbing will be done today! ATM, I am badly losing the race! Hope you have a great V day. I bet you are both rapt ! Progress is going along quite nicely indeed !!! We have come to a complete stop at the moment, can't do anything until we get Council approval. Hopefully won't take too long, although as the lady only works Mon & Fri's, it might take a little longer. How ridiculous is that!!! Can't wait to see your progress and seeing it all come together ! Its going to be brilliant !! Building in Brisbane SW Suburbs Started on site with plumbing on 30/3 - Lock up 2/5 - 15/6 Recd Fixing Invoice - 18/6 Painter to start ! Re: Megzy New Home - Update 8.1.10 35Feb 12, 2009 8:21 pm Ryan - Still a very long way to go. Definately still in the race
Had to leave work early today damn ridiculous having the flu in Summer. Just crazy. Took the time off to take another drive out to the block. Nothing in action but saw a delivery of sand and the weld mesh (go me with the terminology) and still no white pods to be seen. Guess I wont have a slab for v day. Only 55% chance of rain tomorrow better than 99% chance at the start of the week. Wonder if they will pour a slab on saturday? Maybe a much to ask. Monday will be more realistic at this stage. Crissy - Hope they pull their finger out soon and do something about it. Cant believe she only works 2 days a week. Nice for some isnt it. Flu is nothing compared to the victims down south. My heart does go out to everyone affected. Very proud to be an Aussie right now. The support has just been amazing.
News in Brisbane today is that god seems to want to rain on my parade. It has been raining quite heavily all night and into early morning. Bad sign Friday 13th and I dont get my slab. Have to wait till next week. For us V Day will be next weekend. Maybe we can push some rain down south to help out with all the fires. Also, your block looks like it has a similar slope to the one we're looking at - did the builder hit you for extra levelling/retaining costs? Do you mind sharing via PM?
