Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 22, 2009 9:32 am Hi All
Our SS rang us yesterday to let us know that our pre-handover inspection is booked in for next Wednesday He said that the maintainance man is booked for the Thursday to fix anything and that we may get the keys by next weekend! As exciting as that is,we still can,t see how they will get everything finished before the inspection....the painters still need to finish, all the plumbing needs to be done, door handles etc. put on and the electrician needs to install all of the ceiling fans and the shower screens need to be installed.... I know that most of these things won,t take long to do,but going on past experience......anyway we,re trying to think positive We rang the floor tiler and have booked him in for a couple of weeks time and the carpet layer is booked for the 9th Feb. I started on the packing yesterday....it just seems a bit surreal that after 18 months(19 by the time we move) that we will actually have our house Anyway back to the packing...... Good luck for the handover inspection, hope that there aren't too many things that need to be fixed up. Look forward to seeing some "finished" photos! Enjoy Happy at Home Re: Pre-handover inspection next week! 4Jan 22, 2009 11:05 am This is a very good news...

We went through the house on our own yesterday (the tradies let us lock up for them ) we wrote down everything that we could see that needed fixing...mostly things like dents in walls and window sills...joins in architraves that need fixing....I,m not sure how fussy we should be though Oh well, back to the packing Cheers Mel Building on 9 acres exciting 6Jan 22, 2009 11:48 am How exciting for you Mel!
And be as fussy as you can be! Although you want to be moving in asap i'm sure, you don't want dents or anything. Also, I've heard quite a few tradies tell stories of nicking things from houses before they left this stuff to the last minute like they do now. So they probably left most of it until the end on purpose. Good luck with the packing! LOL @ packing months ago We have most of our stuff still packed from 18 months ago when we sold our house and we have moved twice since then We are really only using the bare minimum here, but there,s still seems so much to pack.....I,ve made pretty good progress today.I,m trying to empty all of our cupboards that have things that we don,t use and then we,re going to move those cupboards into our shed at the new house. DH will be busy with vintage(grape harvesting) soon so it,s going to be difficult for him to find the time to move (the harvester with work 24 hrs a day starting from February for the next 3 months ) so if we can get as much stuff moved before then that will be great. The good thing is, you'll rediscover heaps of things you've forgotten you even have in those unopened boxes. And finally locate a few things you've been scratching your head over. Hmm. Did I pack it? Sell it at the garage sale? Give it to charity? Lend it to someone? At least you won't be moving again for a long while.
