Browse Forums Building A New House Re: External Colours.......... PLEASE HELP! 41Feb 18, 2009 8:11 am I can fully understand your feelings on this one. In order to look different to the many other brick and tile homes that will be around us, we also decided to go with dark brick and light roof. We settled on PGH Chocolatto, which is a soft cocoa brown, wild rice tiles (similar to surf mist), with dune gutters, fascia, doors and windows. We also hope to have a pebble driveway to match, with a sprinkling of brown pebbles to pick up the brick colour. The very helpful lady at PGH rang the head colour consultants, and they were very reassuring about this colour choice and have asked for photos of the finished result. I confess that I'm still a little anxious, but we know the house will stand out among the others. We haven's seen many dark houses at all, and the older ones we have seen all have dark roof, which seems gloomy, so I'm hoping the light roof will lift it. Good luck! Re: External Colours.......... PLEASE HELP! 42Feb 18, 2009 8:41 am Thanks for the message Laine,
I am familiar with Chocolatto as i have a relative using that brick on his home currently being built. Have you thought about the mortar colour you will be using? As Chocolatto is a soft brown colour i would go for a dark coloured mortar as a light mortar will lighten up the bricks. i think the colours you have chosen will look fantastic as i too am a fan of light roofs. Good luck! Re: External Colours.......... PLEASE HELP! 43Feb 19, 2009 10:44 am I think the mortar will be off white. What are your rellies using, and is it looking good? This really is a big decision isn't it, since anything else can be changed if we don't like it, but the only alternative for bricks is rendering as far as I know! Thanks for your input. Re: External Colours.......... PLEASE HELP! 44Feb 19, 2009 11:09 am they have used white mortar which has lightened up the bricks, but they also have a dark (monument) roof so this looks great. i had the same trouble deciding on my mortar colour too, i was going to use off white but changed my mind and have used grey cement with white sand which looks fantastic. it blends more with the bricks rather than showing the shape of each individual brick as lighter mortar will do.... also it will make a difference to the type of mortar joint you will have (flush, raked or round)... such a headache i know! good luck The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1612 Thanks Pulse, thats really helpful and very much appreciated.
