Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 21, 2009 6:14 pm Hi everyone currently building my first home and are only days away from getting the slab down. I had a friend cut the block for me a few months ago and he was kind enough to leave roughly 20m of top soil for me to use once the house was done.
My problem is today a guy doing a site cut a few blocks up the street decided he would come and take it all to use on his site cut. Now im now professional but i would think topsoil wouldnt be the best to prepare a slab for. Now ive managed to track down the builder and will make contact tomorrow to see where i stand. Do i have any chance of getting this back or am i wasteing my time? Re: Top Soil Stolen Now more dramas 2Jan 21, 2009 6:49 pm I reckon you will be wasting your time trying to get it back. But I wouldn't rest until they gave me money to the value of 20m3 of topsoil. How much does topsoil cost. Not cheap probably. Let them know you will call the police to report the theft if they aren't obliging.
Re: Top Soil Stolen Now more dramas 4Jan 21, 2009 7:20 pm I'd be pushing for the $3000 bucks deposited into your bank account to make up for the stolen dirt...
Obviously the builder thought he could get away with it... What a jerk! Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Top Soil Stolen Now more dramas 7Jan 21, 2009 8:14 pm I know the whole building thing seems very loose and easy about fences, soil, access, water, power etc, BUT ... that is theft.
Let's say you're in an established house, and get a few cubic meters of soil delivered. Lovely. But someone comes along in the night, scoops it up and drives off. You'd call the police and report a theft, right ? Do the hard jobs first. i know this is tarnishing them all with the same brush, but i feel that most of them deserve the tag my best mate is a tradey and does things id never even imaging trying and he considers it just run of the mill because he knows he can get away with it. they dont make people like they used to...... Re: Top Soil Stolen Now more dramas 11Jan 23, 2009 7:50 pm An update on my soil problem from earlier on in the week.
Spoke to the building company who have agreed to replace the soil, good no problems case closed...... Until today when i go check to see if it was back. They decided not only would they give me it back they would give me 20m of scoria instead right in the middle of my block! To make matters worse the truck sunk into my site cut and now have trenches nearly 1m deep from the truck right through out my block. Ive made contact with this certain company who said they'll look at it next week. Im not one happy person at the moment Re: Top Soil Stolen Now more dramas 12Jan 23, 2009 8:04 pm Why... Why are people so incompetent....
Now it's gonna cost em more than if they had done the right thing.... Make sure you hit them up for the rectification works to fix the "trenches"... And who is the company... About time to name them I think... Or at least give us some hints.... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!!
