Re: Building an EB Memphis28Mk3**Pic Fest 5 Nov!!! 446Nov 06, 2009 7:03 am LOVE the shutters! You've just cemented my not-quite-decided plan to put plantation shutters in our bedroom. We have basically the same facade, and that corner window is one of my favourite things, but also quite difficult to get the right window coverings for. Now I can show my husband how good they look and convince him that I'm right. I fronted up at the Council today and spoke to a Building Officer. I took my DA approved plans for the house and he had a look at them. We also reviewed the DA approval doco and............ It's all good - no need to submit a new DA to build a new wall as the old wall, (even though it has been knocked down) is depicted on the DA approved Plans Yay!!! I was dreading the worst but got the best result I could have hoped for. I'm going to order the materials today. Have decided to go with a dry stack wall of Tasman Blocks from a place down at Seven Hills. A friend of mine has a bobcat so I won't be breaking my back digging the trench. This is such a load off my mind. I was really worried about having to submit a new DA and then have to go thru the whole assesement process and waste managemnt plans and the like. Anyone keen to help me build a wall????? Re: Building an EB Memphis28Mk3**Pic Fest 5 Nov!!! 449Nov 08, 2009 10:16 am Hey Leonard, Woo Hoo, so close and looking great, we are also using the same pavers as you for our driveway but with a border of Chestnut. We started knock down this week, well the roofs off the rest should come down Monday! How long has the procedure taken you so far??? i thought it might give us some idea. Also, who did you get your blinds through if you don't mind me asking. They're very nice. The Absestos was done first, then the roof taken off by hand, then the bulk of the house and foundations done by machine. To give you and idea of how long to get to where we are currently at, our site cut was done on 19th of May. We used Abbey Blinds. We got them to quote at the colour selection appointment. They provided a really good price for what we wanted. We could have done it ourselves after handover and we did look around and got a couple quotes etc but given the price we decided to get them to supply and install as part of the build. Rgds Leonard. Re: Building an EB Memphis28Mk3**Pic Fest 5 Nov!!! 453Nov 09, 2009 4:28 pm Hi again Leonard, I guess ours will take a bit longer given it's a two storey and we'll have xmas shut down and weather to deal with. We also got a quote from Abbey somewhere around $7000 for timber venetian blinds, mmmm i'll keep shopping around!! Thanks for your help, Brooke Building - Eden Brae ENTERTAINER 35 Re: Building an EB Memphis28Mk3**Pic Fest 5 Nov!!! 454Nov 09, 2009 8:10 pm Hi Leonard, i've been reading your post since the start - it's great to see progress as we are also building with EB. your house looks great. You must be happy with the time it has taken to build your house. Just one question...your front door, is it an infinity? with the pull handle. Is there sufficient room next to the pull handle and the door jam to comfortably get the key in the lock? i have seen some doors that are too narrow and it looks very awkward to open the door? I hope EB fix the minor defects quickly. S Re: Building an EB Memphis28Mk3**Pic Fest 5 Nov!!! 455Nov 10, 2009 11:03 am sg Hi Leonard, i've been reading your post since the start - it's great to see progress as we are also building with EB. your house looks great. Is there sufficient room next to the pull handle and the door jam to comfortably get the key in the lock? i have seen some doors that are too narrow and it looks very awkward to open the door? I hope EB fix the minor defects quickly. S Hi sg- Yep the door is an Infinity 1200 x 2040 4G. There is sufficient room to comfortably insert and turn a key and pull (push) on the pull bar. The pic is a little deceptive given the angle the pic was taken at. Yep hoping all of the fixes get done quick and we can settle in the next week or 2. All of the scatched tiles have been replaced. The ensutie vanity door also got scratched and needs to be replaced which might cause a delay in re-supply. All the rest of the things are minor touch ups which is all dependant on the painter. The big thing outside is the Moroka paint. It shrinks after being applied so needs pretty much an entire re-coat. There are 2 things I would have done differently on this house and no Moroka paint is one of them. I would have gone for a complete brick facade all the way if I had my time again. The other is a small change would be to the wall between the meals and the lounge. I would move the wall 300mm into the lounge given my time again. Not a deal breaker and I'm not going to loose any sleep over it though, we luv the house the way it is. Are you running your own build thread? I just scanned thru the first 10 or so pages on the forum and couldn't find one for you. Rgds Leonard. Re: Building an EB Memphis28Mk3**Pic Fest 5 Nov!!! 456Nov 10, 2009 11:13 am Beautiful!! Hey, no probs at all. We changed from the standard handle for the BIR's which was a cavity pull type handle and we didn't really like it. We are susposed to be getting a settlement date from EB today. I dropped by the house on Saturday and there are still a bunch of little things to do . It appears hard to get tradies to re-attend to fix little things when there are bigger jobs out there to do. It's a little frustrating Re: Building an EB Memphis28Mk3**Pic Fest 5 Nov!!! 460Nov 16, 2009 3:12 pm KnockItDown seeking solutions Leonard, thanks for posting the pic of your wardrobe doors!
