Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Floorboards for Project home in Sydney 17Jan 25, 2009 10:52 pm Quote: We originally had our kitchen built for a 20mm floor (the boral kind) but changed it to a 40mm kickboard allowance. Our kickboards are built into/on our kitchen cabinets. Our timber floor goes under the dishwashers space and also into our walk-in pantry. We have spotted gum quad (very slim kind) around the kitchen and it looks great! (Ok it would look better without, but with a project home it was our only option). We had a skirting tacked and painted, and the floor layers have put it back on for us... we do need to do a fair bit of touch ups, but it shouldn't take too long It is worth investigating and talking to as many companies / suppliers that you can. See their work. Ask lots of questions! There are varying schools of thought with regards to laying solid floors. Some say no plastic over a concrete slab, others say paint some kind of 'water barrier' (can't remember what it was called). Some say lay on plywood, others say battens! Thanks for the info Clarity and for the pics, your floors look great! the quad looks a lot better than what I had expected, at least from the distance, tried to enlarge the photo but wasn't able to... I know what you mean about talking to many companies, yeah, some say battens is the way to go, some others say boards with plastic, etc... which way did your layers end up going? It's just too confusing! some say better floors first and then kitchen, others say better kitchen first and then floors... ahhh! Are you happy to share who your supplier and layer were (I believe they were two different companies) with us? and anyone else in Sydney that's had their floors done? It would be good to find out who does a good job, etc Hi all, Been browsing project builders' website and saw Masterton with attached granny flat design Seeing bad reviews from masterton in this website/facebook, does… 0 18302 Hi All New to the forum and looking for some advice, has anyone else renovated an old miners cottage in or around Ballarat and been able to identify the flooring?
