Re: Which plan to choose? 4Jan 17, 2009 10:33 pm I just think the 2nd one is a great design with all 3 other bedrooms in their own section with a play area. You can shut the kids section off from the rest of the house! Re: Which plan to choose? 6Jan 17, 2009 10:35 pm I agree - I like the second one as a family home. Love the kids play area. Not sure if it would work (or how) but I'd try and swap the bathroom and bed 2 so you can close off the 'kids end' of the house so visitors don't have to see their mess...I mean toys and fun stuff ( )...everywhere. Re: Which plan to choose? 8Jan 17, 2009 10:37 pm wakeboardandy I just think the 2nd one is a great design with all 3 other bedrooms in their own section with a play area. You can shut the kids section off from the rest of the house! Totally agree! Although I like the WIL and WIP JellyLegs Not sure if it would work (or how) but I'd try and swap the bathroom and bed 2 Great Idea! Happy at Home Re: Which plan to choose? 9Jan 17, 2009 10:38 pm House-To-Be Totally agree! Although I like the WIL and WIP I'm a typical male.. so didn't notice that until you just mentioned it. Re: Which plan to choose? 10Jan 17, 2009 10:39 pm wakeboardandy House-To-Be Totally agree! Although I like the WIL and WIP I'm a typical male.. so didn't notice that until you just mentioned it. First things I noticed Happy at Home Re: Which plan to choose? 11Jan 17, 2009 10:40 pm What do you think is going to be more attractive - ie. great area for kids or extra storage???
The kitchen has a double door pantry not as big but still significant and there is storage in the laundry and a broom cupboard. (plan 2 that is) Re: Which plan to choose? 12Jan 17, 2009 10:47 pm How many bedrooms do you plan on using? You've got 4 beds + study - the study could be reconfigured to be closer to the kitchen and used as storage. You'd need to redesign the whole family/meals/alfresco for it to work in nicely.
OR -leave it as is and just chuck stuff in and close the door Plenty of room to play with. Great design. The more I look at it the more I like it! Really good use of the space. Re: Which plan to choose? 13Jan 17, 2009 10:48 pm A double door pantry will be ample. The kitchen actually looks quite big and I'm guessing must have alot of underbench cupboards so ample cupboard space.
I'd make that little alcove in the playroom (next to bed 3's robe) a single linen cupboard. For $10k you get a playroom and an extra bedroom, totally worth it. How many children do you have? Bedroom 2 on plan 2 is a better guest room than shown in plan 1. I like the long entry in plan 2 too I'd put doors on the HT, Study and a cavity slider going into the kids area. Would be nice to be able to shut that area off. Happy at Home Re: Which plan to choose? 14Jan 17, 2009 10:49 pm Is this to be family home? Kids? Little kids? Teenagers?
I still think I like Plan No. 2 better, even though I would love a WIL! You could add a row of cupboards in the play room along the wall that adjoins the bathroom. You could use it for extra linen storage and if you have kids, toys, board games, Playstations and the like. I would probably take the wall out from in between the mud room and laundry to create a bigger space, then either have the door opening into the laundry itself, or into the hallway. Re: Which plan to choose? 15Jan 17, 2009 10:53 pm Forgot to answer your question: for us kids area was VERY important even though we only have 2, their 'stuff' seems to take over the house. We'll have an 'activity room' between our kids rooms where all their stuff will live. We made the house 600mm wider and added an extra BIR along the long wall of the activity room for more storage - another idea for you to play with. Doing this also gave us a BIR in the study making a 4th bedroom.
You can kind of see it here: http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/HousePlan.jpg My pet peeve is having to walk through the activity room to get to the bathroom, but for us it was just too hard to change. Re: Which plan to choose? 16Jan 17, 2009 10:53 pm Believe it or not at this stage its just my husband and our dog!!! Forward planning I guess - there are just a lot of big houses in our area plus we want to give ourselves options for when we do have kids (which hopefully would be within a few years anyway)
We thought of converting the gap in the playroom into a linen closet as well!! Re: Which plan to choose? 18Jan 17, 2009 11:10 pm Rosemarys - great idea to prepare for the future! I think the extra $10k is worth it - totally!
Jellylegs - are you building with Coral Homes? Looks like one of their plans. We used to live in Brisbane and built the Brampton 232 (25sq) with them back in 1997 Happy at Home Re: Which plan to choose? 19Jan 18, 2009 9:22 am ok by memeory im thinking plan 1 - is the revolution bu Burbank and plan 2 is the Scarborough by Watersun homes....hope im rifght lol i looke dat both these house definately preferred plan 2 if we had decided to go smaller that was our house! Plan 1 the kitchen is very small no alot of bench space which was a must for me even though it had the WIP and WIL it still didnt appeal as i would have preferred a bigger kitchen! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! (2009) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17354 Re: Which plan to choose? 20Jan 18, 2009 9:25 am Plan 2 would be my choice definitely - I love the kids play area, for $10k just think about resale for the extras - I know noone plans on selling but always good to consider.
Only concern I'd have if I were building the second one is I'm not so sure how the meals/family area would work. Just trying to fit a table then couches into the area and it isn't working in my head. Anyone else pick this up? Meals just seems too big. Or am I just not picturing it ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6352 brokers will also be in a position to get you a better rate than the advertised rate most times. 6 7575 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7272 |
