I think it is a requirement under tiles in some bushfire-prone areas. We have it under our colorbond roof. BTW, it need to be "draped" between the purlins to be effective as insulation - not pulled tight.
But I haven't seen it used to wrap the walls of brick veneer houses in SA. If we'd been given that option, though, I would have seriously considered it. I can see several ways it would be beneficial and I can't see any real downside apart from the cost, which would be fairly modest in the overall scheme of things.
