Or the front garden
However I do have a vegetable patch with 3 tomato plants growing and about 4 lettuces have come out .

Your room is large, so now by seeing the whole room I can agree with your last comments on what to put on the long wall. So I would say go for it! Make sure all your furniture is matching….cabinetry that is, in the one room. I guess all you need is a large comfy lounge, sitting back toward the long high wall in the first photo. This is a room that will need to evolve!!!! As you go you will get the feel for it. I have to say it’s a cold looking room, due to the tiles on the floor. I think you should invest in a nice plush pile rug to sit between the TV and lounge. Start with the one wall that you first asked questions on and move your way around. A couple of large house plants will look good as well. You now need to add some colour in here to soften the look. Has this help a little??? By the way ……MORE PHOTOS!!! Lets see one of the completed kitchen and bathrooms!!!! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: We've finally started 124Oct 24, 2007 8:12 pm Thanks Michelle, you have helped a lot - that is confirmed that I am going in the right direction. The only thing is that the TV antenna is on the smaller wall facing the big wall so we'll have to put the TV there, I'm planning some really low units there.
The cabinetry will all be charcoal , same as the kitchen and bathrooms, call me weird, but I love the colour. The couch will be red and I guess I'll have to find a rug (I thought with splashes of red but mostly grey, but the lady who dressed the windows thought one red in the room will be enough?). Was also thinking about a couple of big indoor plants. I'll get to the photos soon. Thanks Michelle, you're a gem, as always. Re: We've finally started 125Oct 24, 2007 8:20 pm My pleasure mek….out of everyone in here, your project seems to have lasted the longest!
Probably because you were doing your homework WAY before you started building, and on 2 FORUMS!!!! It’s great to see you finally in your home!! Even better to know that you feel RIGHT there, that’s so important. I’m very happy for you, all your research must have paid off for you. Oh by the way, I managed to get an insert for my sink - together it is now more expensive than any piece of jewelery I own - maybe I should insure it separately? The photo is not the greatest, will try to do some from a bit of a distance. I'm having furniture custom made as I don't have 10k to spend on a TV wall unit, also I get to choose colours I want. I'm getting the quote soon and hopefully will have everything made before Xmas. The pieces are inspired by some Italian stuff. Re: We've finally started 129Oct 27, 2007 11:01 am Mek I love all the drawers in your kitchen. I know you custom designed your house, do you know if the drawers in lieu of cupboards were a lot more expensive? Do you have a walk in pantry and did you go with an integrated fridge?
Enjoy your wonderful house! Sharn Re: We've finally started 130Oct 27, 2007 2:43 pm Thanks Sharn.
With pot drawers, I can't really help you as I wanted them from the start so don't know what the difference would be - but I'm sure other people on the forum have upgraded to drawers, maybe if you ask on the Kitchen section of the forum? I don't have a walk-in pantry, I have another wall with a pull out pantry, two cupboards with shelves and the fridge - yes, it's been integrated, but not bought as such - it's an old Fisher&Paykel, I believe all of their models can be integrated by buying an integration kit. This is the sectionl: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: We've finally started 131Oct 28, 2007 12:13 pm Mek you've done a great job designing your kitchen! I have to admit the finishes are not my style, but the practicality that has been incorporated is to be highly commended-seems to be a good amount of storage and bench space.
Sharon Re: We've finally started 132Oct 28, 2007 12:16 pm Mek,
I may be on completely the wrong track, but I thought of you when I stumbled across this furniture. (Sorry, not sure how to post a link properly.) http://www.creativecabinets.com.au/0005big.html Sharon Re: We've finally started 133Oct 28, 2007 1:08 pm Mek,
There are so many things to like about your kitchen. It looks spacious and very practical. Things I particularly like: 1) Square set ceiling 2) The overhang cupboards (small enough to not overpower the space, while large enough to provide some storage) 3) The wall of cupboards to the left [very similar to what I'm thinking about] 4) The island bench overhang is practical. It means rather than people sitting in a row at a breakfast bar, three can sit around, which is far more social [again, this is in my design] One suggestion for you. Some may think there is too much grey. What do you think about painting the inside edge of the fin wall in the kitchen. A nice deep red to reflect the red door theme perhaps? And if you really want to splurge, make it a glass splashback. Do I see storage draws on the back side of the island? What's a sink insert? Look forward to seeing more of your house. Very well done. I might have to investigate the link further if my plans fall through.
Casa, the sink insert is a sort of drainer/colander since we don't have a separate draining board, it especially fits the sink: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ With the wall, I realise that 99.9999999% of people think there's too much grey but I've always been a bit strange when it comes to taste (that also goes for clothes, food, you name it ) so I like it this way. There actually is a glass splashback there with plain coloured glass and the wall painted the same colour as the rest of the house. The island bench has 60cm deep drawers on the inside and 30cm on the outside, the 30cm ones are narrow but they do fit place mats, napkins, plastic bags, etc. There is also another wall, I just realised that it does not show in any of the photos (it's opposite to the wall with the fridge), it has an appliance cupboard (which is too narrow for our microwave ) and more bench space/drawers. I can't take a photo right now because there's a narrow window there with no blinds so the sun is too bright and the photo I just took is too dark to see properly. Re: We've finally started 135Oct 28, 2007 3:12 pm Mek,
If your taste is such that "99.9999999% of people think there's too much grey", then there are only 7 people in the world in the same boat as you. And you're one of them BTW, to take that photo (for next time), point the camera towards the object in question and without the window in view then push the button half way down. Then move to where you want to take the shot and shoot. This way the camera takes it's settings from the first position and applies them to where you want.
