Browse Forums Building A New House Re: McDonald Jones Homes 62Feb 09, 2010 4:27 pm nooooooooooooooooooooooo It's finished and sitting there. Waiting for our last payment to be processed, it's driving me nuts. Sitting in rental house- one block away- waiting... waiting... waiting. Our SS said at our PCI that we were a pleasure to build for I guess because we didn't cause a fuss... but unlike some HORROR stories I've read on here, our build was almost perfect- therefore no reason to complain. No reason to complain = Happy SS! Happy, happy, happy... will be happier when we are in Where is edgewater? sounds familiar buzz Re: McDonald Jones Homes 63Mar 19, 2010 2:44 am Reg081 Mav - I have had very similar problems with this company as well such as the soil etc. They definetly did use who ever they could get for the brickies. They didn't bother checking the brickies work out which meant the job was pretty crap and has to be fixed. Yes they have been reasonable when I have a problem. The communication and misinformation from the colour person has been frustrating. I will give them credit for having a majority of good tradies but the problem ****** with the company itself. Pretty bad when someone from MJH rings up and tells you they are from b'chwood homes...I had to laugh. It appears they have a lot of staff from b/wood in their south coast operation. Please remember that your house should be to the same standard as the display home as stated on the NSW Fair Trading website. Hi All I was wondering if anyone else was posting rplies about macdonald jones homes MJH and their experiences on the south coast. I look forward to replys Sorry for bringing back an old quote but the fair trading concept interested me. Re: McDonald Jones Homes 64Jun 02, 2010 9:03 am BEWARE OF THIS BUILDER for the following be prepared There show homes are fabulous but if you want one be prepared to pay about $100,000 above the base price. They take for ever to build your house. In the development we are in other builders complete well before them and if you are paying rent and a mortgage this can become an issue. The company itself is good to deal with at the start but a lot of their construction is done by contractors who seem to only work for McDonal Jones when they want too. They will be there one day but not the next making the time tick away at your cost. Re: McDonald Jones Homes 65Jun 02, 2010 1:50 pm Also beware of the cost that they pass on. A friend building with these guys had his pier cost from quote to actual cost double overnight even after the subby called him and said he was within his allowance. They even sent the subby's invoice to him with the subby cost of the piering on it. $14 per l/m cost to customer $80 per l/m. went from 35l/m to 75 l/m overnight. ANd charged him in excess of 4 times their own cost. Re: McDonald Jones Homes 66Jun 02, 2010 8:50 pm Our site costs were also underestimated for the Chesterfield Grande, which they advised us when just about to do the slab. We needed extra fill and due to the rock, no idea on how much extra to bore and pier. We complained as we had also been given a quote for another design (Beachside) and pulled out due to these extra costs, which funnily enough in the end came to the same amount! We received a credit back as not need to bore as much concrete as needed, however later found out they never bored and piered our water tank slab! Re: McDonald Jones Homes 67Feb 18, 2011 10:24 am We are just starting out with MJH, and have been happy with the process till now. Colour consultation took a couple of goes till we were happy, but the girls were understanding and supportive. Electrical alittle disappointing, no cooling off period, so we were put on the spot to know what we wanted, we were told we could no leave until we signed the contract. On the way home I thought of something that I wanted to changed, placed a call only 1 business hour after leaving them and was told if I wanted to make the change it would cost me $500. No cooling off period. Want to get in my own qualified guy to do Pre Wire for Music, as not interested in an installer who installer crap equipment. Was told no I could not have an experienced installer who has all the papers onto there site. Whos home are we building. So at this point I am wondering how the whole process is going to go.........and the moment I am not too sure. But what choice do you have if you want there home designs. Re: McDonald Jones Homes 68Feb 18, 2011 10:57 am I had the same issue the stung me over $400 to have my own guys do my Communications wiring. To be honest the sales outfit are sharks. But I have been happy with my supervisor. MJH project a Pro image but to be honest they are a spec builder that has made it big due to some good management and a lot of luck. So far though they seem like they build a good house but stay on top of every step Re: McDonald Jones Homes 69Feb 18, 2011 3:31 pm I am wondering if anyone out there has managed to get there own installer in for pre wire? This has to be done prior to gyprocking if done properply, after gyprocking, very difficult, especially with steel frame, insulating and sound proofing in walls. MJH know this and hence puts you in a position if not knowledgable to go with them. I am in the Home theatre installation industry and want to do it my way. After all I know the quality of our workmanship and that quality cabling that is being used. We have installed gear into a MJH after fit off, but was a easy application and did not need to get on site prior to gyprocking. I advised our CLO of this and she still said NO. Her words were if I could prove of other sites that have allowed this, then it would give her more pull with upper management! You would think customer service would be No:1. So has anyone managed to get there own installer onto there site to do work prior to gyprocking. I have been given theoption to have my prewire done by my own guys but I needed to pay a fee Re: McDonald Jones Homes 72Feb 19, 2011 3:11 pm I am certainly Interested in following the build. I will also keep up to date on our build. So far we are at slab level on the Bronte Grand Manor.Termite shield has been installed and awaiting frame. The Supervisor is pretty decent to be honest and has helped me out on a couple of small bugs with the build. One tip if you are getting an aircon option make sure you get details of the setup to refer to. Not that we have had issues yet but we upgraded ours and were still only given 2 zones and 12 outlets McDonald Jones Homes 74Feb 20, 2011 9:17 pm muscovy Hi folks I've been reading the posts with interest. Dont forget to look at the site "McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread" for other info. Can you post a URL or link to this new thread Re: McDonald Jones Homes 76Mar 26, 2017 7:42 pm About to start building a new McDonald Jones in Port Macquarie. We will have a better idea of how their standard range stacks up in the next few weeks. Re: McDonald Jones Homes 77Mar 31, 2017 8:34 am The link you supplied appears to be just your photos and comments. Where is the new forum? Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders.
