Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 12, 2009 9:31 pm After an 18 month journey to rebuild on our narrow block on a main road with tramlines in a flood overlay area, I think we're finally done! We've been in for almost 2 months now, and the main stuff yet to be done is landscaping. Thought I should share a few photos of the finished product, as I know you like photos...

As our floor is 1m off the ground (flood overlay - grrrr), the rear wall of the dining area could only be 1.8m high, thus the raked ceiling. Table and pew were purchased to fit the room... Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 2Jan 12, 2009 9:35 pm Wow!! You have done a great job!!
Gorgeous home and you have done such a great job to fit it to the land/requirements Love the touches of red! And I know Jo is going to love your floor tiles My karma ran over your dogma Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 3Jan 12, 2009 9:45 pm Oo love that back deck/step area. Well done. The entry and porch look terrific too. I like the render colour combined with that brick colour and the timber. . Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 4Jan 13, 2009 7:45 am Good one mate. It is so frustrating where the flood overlay is pushing you one way and rescode is pushing you the opposite isn't it?
Well done for dealing with it. JB Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 7Jan 13, 2009 8:02 am Mr T everything looks wonderful.
As Bel said, I do love, love, love the tiles but they've been deleted! There's something similar though. I think the raked ceiling in the dining area is wonderful. I know you had to do this for the flood overlay issue, but the space looks so cosy, intimate and welcoming. I actually think it gives a wonderful effect. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Also love your letterbox Did you make it or buy? Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 9Jan 13, 2009 9:07 am Thanks guys - yes, we really like the dining area too - not something we would have thought of ourselves, but it works really well.
Bel - the letterbox was just from Bunnings - bought it on special back in October - was only about $100... I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 10Jan 13, 2009 9:33 am MrT
The house looks fantastic (the dining seating conundrum solved with the pew is brilliant)...and I like looking at houses that successfully resolve complicated siting issues like a narrow block. Can you answer a couple of DIY questions: - how are the toppings holding out under traffic...are you getting much loose stuff coming off them - did you put the toppings on screenings first or straight onto the natural ground - what is, and where did you source, the stiff looking plastic lattice work under the deck Cheers, Mike Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 11Jan 13, 2009 10:34 am to_do_list MrT The house looks fantastic (the dining seating conundrum solved with the pew is brilliant)...and I like looking at houses that successfully resolve complicated siting issues like a narrow block. Can you answer a couple of DIY questions: - how are the toppings holding out under traffic...are you getting much loose stuff coming off them Not much loose stuff coming off at the moment, some loose stones on the top, but is actually pretty solid. Main issue is just the dust that sits on the surface and then onto your shoes. Front door mat is essential! to_do_list - did you put the toppings on screenings first or straight onto the natural ground Not 100% sure, as the driveway was done by a landscaping/driveway company. I think they were just onto the natural ground, then watered heavily to set the stabilising agents (which I think was just cement mixed through the toppings) to_do_list - what is, and where did you source, the stiff looking plastic lattice work under the deck Its just some garden edging that I found in Bunnings. About $7-8 for a pack of 4 pieces from memory. Pretty cheap and nasty stuff that I don't think would actually be much good for garden edging, but I just wanted something that stop balls etc rolling too far under the deck, without wanting to go to a lot of effort. The black plastic doesn't show up much, and I think was a better solution than trying to put more merbau under the bottom stage of the deck. Will put up a photo later... I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 12Jan 13, 2009 12:03 pm Thanks MrT...my thoughts on the plastic stuff were the same...to stop errant cover drives lodging under the decking.
Cheers, Mike Re: MrT's house - done and done - now with landscaping! 13Jan 13, 2009 12:39 pm MrT ..... thanks for sharing the photos! You should be very proud of what you have achieved, particularly, given the small frontage and the annoying 'flood plain' restrictions; the back deck looks great and I love the pew (very clever).
