Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 12, 2009 9:06 pm Here is a pic of the front elevation of our house. We will be having 'jasper' coloured garage door and facia also in jasper.
We would like to somehow incorporate some rendering (maybe using quoining? of bricks) to get more of that feature colour on the left side of the house. Would love some feedback! We meet with the brickies on thursday morning to tell them of our decision Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As you can see I think it will look a bit wierd to have all that jasper colour to one side of the house only.. any ideas...please Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Nice facade, quoins in my opinion will make facade look older fashioned and fussier - what about a bit of render in jasper around the windows (framing the windows ) I don't know the technical term.... Re: What to do/ Bricks/ partly render 3Jan 12, 2009 10:49 pm Or perhaps you could render the sills on the front windows with a jasper colour. This would just give a touch of the colour and help balance out your concern. Re: What to do/ Bricks/ partly render 4Jan 13, 2009 8:35 am Great ideas guys! thanks for you opinion. Maybe I might get them to do a soldier cource around the front windows so I can render them in jasper after handover. Just not sure as we wont be able to fit a soldier cource around the top of the wimdows, just underneath and along the sides.. Will this look wierd? Any other ideas? Re: What to do/ Bricks/ partly render 5Jan 13, 2009 7:27 pm Ok, I think i've made a decision.
A friend of mine suggested that in front of (between) the 2 windows, maybe a water feature/urn or something with the 'jasper' coloured wash to go there. What do you think? We had a similar suggestion made to get large glazed pots in a similar colour to our facia to bring it all together. Use them for nice potted plants, or as you've suggested, a water feature.
I think it looks fine anyway - your landscaping will make a difference to the look of the facade too, so its hard to tell at this stage if it will look right. Are you using one of the builders porticos? We chose not too - thought the price was a bit steep for something many others in the street will have. We'll DIY something unique later down the track; so that will be another way to ensure all the colours are tied in evenly. Re: What to do/ Bricks/ partly render 7Jan 22, 2009 12:39 am Im not sure on the colour but I assume it would be personal preference. Mind you I dont have great taste and leave these things to the wife. What ever you decide should be good as long as you are happy with it. Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well. I can see all the bumps… 0 5751 |
