Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 05, 2009 12:20 pm I am hoping some people might be able to shed some light on whether my husband and I are being 'had' by our architect. We are almost at the stage of having the final plans for our house. Our architect, who is also the project manager, has recommended a builder who is about to provide a quote. On the architects recommendations we got a quantity surveyors estimate, which he says the builder will not know about. We would like to get two other builders to quote on the project. Our architect does not want us to do this because he thinks it might put the other builder off side. As far as we are concerned, this is the largest purchase we will probably ever make and we want to be sure we are getting a good price. I would like to know if anyone else come across a situation like this before? Re: Questions regarding quotes from several builders 2Jan 05, 2009 12:34 pm Its really simple. Its your house, and you are paying for it.
You can get as many quotes as you like. The relationship with the builder at this time is not your problem. Adrian B Re: Questions regarding quotes from several builders 3Jan 05, 2009 1:08 pm It sounds like your architect wants you to use this builder for a reason.
I have just finised getting quotes from 7 different builders and I made sure they all new, if they want the job they will possibly give you a better price or include extras others don't offer. I would definately get numerous quotes, its in your interests to do so. And quite frankly, builders should expect this so have no reason to "get off side" Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Get four quotes. Why does the architect need to know that you got other quotes? Just take the drawings to three other builders and see what they say. Also, if you go with the architect builder, make sure the price is fixed.
