Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 23, 2008 9:35 am Not sure if anyone can help me, thought try my luck! I’ve noticed our drinking water taste funny, like can’t even describe it, not right, now we have recycled water in our estate which apparently we can’t use, yet our toilets are hooked up to it. So im worried so may our drinking water.
Wanting to know when you first move into a house is it normal for your water to have a bit of a funny taste because its going through new plastic pipes etc Re: Drinking water in a new house 2Dec 23, 2008 9:42 am we've just moved into a brand new rental and i cant say the taste of the water is too bad
we have a healthy h2o water filter / chiller so dont actually drink tap water unless when brushing teeth etc its been one of the best investments we've made, its awesome Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Are those filter expensive to get?? Re: Drinking water in a new house 4Dec 23, 2008 10:01 am We too have just moved into a brand new rental with rain water
tank. I think our water especially from the showers smell's like cat wee. It could be the new pipes however, and I think it seems to be going away but definately different smelling and even kitchen tap tastes different to water we had in the Redland Shire. Re: Drinking water in a new house 5Dec 23, 2008 11:30 am Ours seemed a bit funny the first day or so, but it seemed to go away pretty quickly. Maybe a few long showers might clear out the pipes of whatever got in during building? I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: Drinking water in a new house 6Dec 23, 2008 12:29 pm Have you moved to a different area? Water can taste slightly different in different places, even within the same city. Different reservoirs, different types of pipes, all sorts of things.
If you're concerned, ring the water authority. I'm pretty sure it's a simple thing to test the water and make sure it's OK. Better to be safe.... We're getting an in-sink water filter ASAP, not because our water tastes bad, but just because I have a "thing" about chemicals in water. I happen to know I have poor detoxification genes, so I can't afford to be consuming any nasties. Re: Drinking water in a new house 8Dec 23, 2008 12:52 pm At both of the new houses I have lived in, the water tasted funny for a little while. This is because of the glues they use in the plumbing now, it's not all copper like it used to be. Re: Drinking water in a new house 9Dec 24, 2008 6:59 pm We didn't drink our tap water in our new home for a couple of months to let the awful taste dissipate. Arfur reply 11Dec 27, 2008 7:20 pm I'm yet to move into my new home, so maybe I will see what the fuss is all about then?
