Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 22, 2008 10:06 pm Heya all....
Again...looking to take the plunge into building world... In the meantime though, weve rented a brand new house...sort of a learning process etc... Anyways....this home seems to frequently 'discharge' the sewer drain smell from some of the drains...mainly in the ensuite through the drain in the floor.... Anyone now why it does this...??? is it a building flaw...is it because the estate is still being developed and something to do with the master pipes...?? Is there a way to stop it....??? If i build, it is petrifing me because if my drains end up like this i would be devestated.... Re: Slightly O/T...but.... 2Dec 22, 2008 10:21 pm not sure why it is happening but the drain in our toilet at works smells sometimes.. you just need to keep the pipe wet.. if it dries out it stinks.. so try putting a cup of water down it and see if that eases the smell. The water that is held in the pipes actually works as a barrier to hold down the smells in the pipes. Over time when the water evaporates, that barrier is no longer in place so the polution is free to travel up and out into your house. By continually adding water to any drains (including toilets that arent used often etc) your ensuring that there is a barrier in place to stop the travel of the smell Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated!
