Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 22, 2008 7:56 am We are in the process of building a new home and the roof tiles have been installed with white dripple marks on the edges on approx. 60% of the tiles. We have told the builder that they are not acceptable but the builder is adamant that they will not replace same. The builder, after consulting with the tile company (which is one of the biggest in Aust), have advised that the marks are due to "efflorescence"
and the tile company has offered to recoat the tiles which they call "sheen" (as installed) with "quality material as used in their manufacturing plant" which they tell us with provide a "deeper colour to the tiles" and are prepared to guarantee the tile surface for 7 years "against unusual variation of colour throughout the roof". Efflorescence apparently is when calcium comes to the surface during the curing process. We ordered "colour through" tiles and are concerned to agree to the tile company's solution as we think all they are doing in painting the tiles and in time the paint with flake off etc. Has anybody had the same issue? Would love to get feedback about others experiences, thoughts, etc. Thanks Re: White marks on our roof tiles??? 2Dec 24, 2008 7:34 pm "we think all they are doing in painting the tiles and in time the paint with flake off etc"
Exactly, I think you may have to flex your (legal) muscles at this. Or hire an independent building inspection consultant. Cant say I have ever seen 'efflorescence' come out on roof tiles as often evident on brickwork and new laid concrete. I would hate to think what it would look like after 7 years, as a friend of mine had her tiles 'painted' about 8 or 9 years ago and they look absolutely awful now with fading and peeling. Good Luck Arfur Do you have solar on the roof, because if its not a laying defect it looks almost like someone has been walking all over the roof in the mid section of the tile (weakest… 2 1238 Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable.
