Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 21, 2008 9:29 am We're wanting to build a small weekender/cabin on some land near Bathurst NSW and am wondering what are some cost effective building options before we take our ideas to a draftsperson.
We have a budget of around $50K for a 40sq metre cabin. Tiny. We want it to look reasonably decent /rustic and use as much timber inside it as we can afford. We are thinking 8m x 5m with a 45 degree pitched roof in keeping with the local huts/buildings/barns. Is galv iron a cheaper cladding than weatherboard? (And can galv iron be insulated well enough for cold winters/hot summers)? Which would be cheaper - to build a sleeping loft inside or add an extra metre to the size of the cabin to accomodate the bed? We'd like to use recycled timber (floor boards/ wall lining/ wndow/door frames etc) but is it more expensive than using new timber? Contrete slab or timber piles? Solar or electricity? Any advice or tips would be much appreciated! Re: Building a cost effective cabin 2Dec 21, 2008 10:11 am Not sure what else ****** beneath the colorbond but is this the sort of thing you meant?
Here's an local example where its been used. Someone I know has the offer on this place. http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&id=7232138&f=10&p=10&t=rur&ty=&fmt=&header=&cc=&c=79417712&s=wa&tm=1229814395 There are a few smaller type in town houses where it's been used on single story new builds as part of an external wall. There was one for sale but I can't find it anymore online. also someone on Homeone was using it as an external wall on a bush type block somewhere in the eastern states. they'd have moved in by now.[/url] Re: Building a cost effective cabin 3Dec 21, 2008 12:16 pm In regards to recyled/secondhand timber.
