Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Cascades on Clyde 2Jan 03, 2009 12:51 pm Hi, we are building in Cascades on Clyde in a few months. I got the booklet too, I havent really read too much into it yet.
However I got a letter from the developers bringing to our attention that there have been a few homes already completed that did not get the correct wiring and are unable to use the Telstra Velocity. It all pretty much means that your house will be ready to go for phone/internet/foxtel without needing any antennas, modems or satellite dishes. It will all be delivered to your home through an optical fibre instead of normal copper cable. The guys at the sales office have information on it too. but the most important thing to do is to give all the information to your builder and make sure they give you everything you need, wiring wise, otherwise the Telstra Velocity will be useless. Re: Cascades on Clyde 4Jan 03, 2009 2:33 pm I am not sure but doesn't velocity mean that you can only use bigpond as an isp. You cant go through any other server at all ? I know that we get a telstra package and its the copper wire one, if we take them up on it we have to use bigpond for 12 months then we are free to use whatever isp we want. Re: Cascades on Clyde 5Jan 03, 2009 11:04 pm We did put a deposit down on a block in Wesson Way but pulled out a few days later. We're building in an estate not too far from there now though. Re: Cascades on Clyde 6Jan 03, 2009 11:12 pm HomeReview The smart wired estates generally are an overpriced monopoly. Telstra are happy to lease their lines and fibre optic network to other providers. If other providers choose not to do this then I would hardly call that Telstra's fault. We are moving into a Telstra Velocity estate and I am very happy that we are for the following reasons: - Don't need an antenna on the roof. - Don't need a satellite on the roof for foxtel. - We get the cable version of foxtel which means we can have all the fta channels in HD. At the moment satellite don't get them and don't get ch7 broadcast at all. - Internet speed is capable of speeds up to 300mb/s which is more than 12 times that of ADSL 2+ and it doesn't matter how far you are from the exchange. (Presently they cap it at 24mb/s but that is still faster than most adsl2+ services unless you are about 100m from the exchange). - You can have 4 phone lines installed in the house from the one connection to the house. - Alternatively you can choose to not have a phone line and choose to run voip over the internet service, saving money on phone rental. and yes I may be biased as I work for Telstra but I still think FTTH (fibre to the home) is a great technology and the way of the future regardless of which company is supplying it. Re: Cascades on Clyde 9Jan 04, 2009 8:45 pm Cleishy Do you know if only Laurimar and Cornells Hill are getting Telstra Velocity or will estates in between like Mitchells Run also have Telstra Velocity? At this stage in the mernda area it is only Ashley Park, Cornells Hill and Laurimar that have velocity. We're building just around the corner from you. Lot 872 Yammerbrook Way. Inspired homes - Townsend 288 with modifications. Been informed today, all plans been approved, just waiting for a start date, hopefully by end of this month. 25 years in the planning. Inspired Homes - Townsend 288 (moved in 1/8/09) Re: Cascades on Clyde 16Jan 12, 2009 8:08 pm Wow, looks like I've just met my new neighbours. We got lot 867. Nice to meet you!!
Have you guys noticed that the street name is actually Yammerbook and the street signs say Yammerbrook, as well as all the advertising materials and everything? How did they get that so wrong? Re: Cascades on Clyde 18Jan 12, 2009 9:14 pm Hi leesy,
Nice to meet you. Have just been down to the lot tonight, met some more neigbours - lot 857 on Vane St. The first people we have actually bumped into since we first put a deposit down in August. Good pickup about Yammerbook, we have never picked it up, not sure if I want it changed, we quite like Yammerbrook. Looking back through all the paperwork, it is only the original vendor statement that shows book, everything else shows brook. We now have taps with running water, so looks like the start date isn't too far away. 25 years in the planning. How did they get that so wrong? That reminds me of a street in the estate next door to ours. The two street signs say "Mermid", which is what we calld it for ages and thought it was silly as everyone will get it wrong, but then discovered on the builder's name boards on houses being built there that it is actually "MermAid" ! Oooooopsie.
