Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Cascades on Clyde 342May 23, 2010 5:30 pm aaronhoughton I must add a foot note though not to deter EVERYONE.. But apparently there is a few issues with my street (Bushranger) when they put the infrastructure in when the street was being built.. Still the painful phone calls just to find that out took weeks Update: There is none Thats really terrible to hear aaron. I must say that we had no trouble at all, except that telstra told us we would be connected on the Tuesday, and it actually happened on the Friday. The contractor that came out was fantastic, he said at the time that it was good to see a house "ready to go". Unfortunately there are some builders in the estate getting electricians to wire up the houses for the velocity, when what you really need is an expert. I've heard of a few cases in the estate where the delays have been caused by insufficient or uninformed wiring... One of my hubbys workmates is renting in Bushranger and had no trouble at all. As for the pricing, it is no different than Bigpond in non velocity areas. I was with Bigpond previously and it is no more expensive. And yes, you get the $1500 rebate which is great !! The speed of the internet is well worth it.. I couldnt believe it when I first hooked up. I think this is all great technology and definately worth having. Once you get all hooked up you wont look back. I really hope you get hooked up soon so you can enjoy it too. Building the "Yarra Studio" by Premier Builders/Longvue Homes. Yammerbook Way, Cascades on Clyde All done.. April 2010 Re: Cascades on Clyde 343May 23, 2010 8:11 pm Thanks Leesy! Yeah I think I am just more frustrated with the lack of communication from Telstra. Even speaking with the subbies they arent told things, etc and it just makes the whole situation messy. I had the tech call me directly on Friday and he said he will be out thursday to get it all sorted out, so fingers crossed Looks like there is a bit happening up the front of the state now, must be a new stage coming in soon.. one step closer to seeing some parklands maybe? I would of thought that GEO may have got their butts in to gear with Selandra coming up next door Re: Cascades on Clyde 344May 23, 2010 8:52 pm So what is the actual process for getting velocity? We have stated to our builder that we want it and on our plans it says that the house is to be wired in accordance with Telstra Velocity requirements...but what does that actually mean? Do we still need to contact Telstra to get it all connected after the house is finished? The builder is also taking about us needing somesort of trench dug? Anyone shed some light on this for me? _____________________________ Building with Dennis Family Homes Flinders 331 Classic Cascades on Clyde http://www.heathershawhouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Cascades on Clyde 345May 23, 2010 9:11 pm hshaw, I dont know if I can be of help but I can tell you what I know. I am not sure about the trench, I believe in most cases that is already taken care of (the pipe that runs from the pit to your house). When you move in, you ring up the Telstra Velocity number (a 1800 number) and ask them to get it connected. A tech will come out on site, mount a box to the side of your house (this is your modem, tv antenna and home phone all in one). They then run fibre optic cable from your house through the pipe back to the pit, terminate it and then flick the switch at the exchange.. jobs done. My circumstances are a bit different, alot of miscommunication and issues with the pipe thus 6 weeks later and no phone, tv or net Maybe leesy can give you more info? But the process should be relatively straight forward once you move in Be sure to quiz them about the $1500 rebate too (only applies if you get the internet put on) Re: Cascades on Clyde 346May 25, 2010 8:47 am Cool, thanks for the info Aaron. _____________________________ Building with Dennis Family Homes Flinders 331 Classic Cascades on Clyde http://www.heathershawhouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Cascades on Clyde 347May 25, 2010 7:26 pm OK I'll throw in my expert opinion.. haha If you are just starting to build, make sure you specify exactly what you want. Make sure you cater for your phone points, your internet/data points and your tv points. Dont forget to add the tv points into your bedrooms as well if you plan on having tv's in there. It is much cheaper to do it all when your building than adding later on. If the builders do the job right, you will have wires hanging out of your brickwork near your meter box, and wires and a power point in the garage. Telstra do the rest. I dont know anything about a trench, I believe this is part of the build and what you pay for when you ask for the velocity. Its nothing that Telstra have to do. When the subbies for telstra come, they add a box to the outside, one inside and your ready to go. The phone and tv will be activated instantly. If you want internet or foxtel you just ring them to organise. Telstra have to send you a velocity modem so if you have a normal adsl one it wont work. But that is part of the package. They also give you the $1500 rebate which is xlent !! Hope this helps. My only advice is to make sure the builder gets an expert to do the job. Otherwise you might have trouble later on and you dont want that !! Building the "Yarra Studio" by Premier Builders/Longvue Homes. Yammerbook Way, Cascades on Clyde All done.. April 2010 Re: Cascades on Clyde 348May 27, 2010 9:59 am Cool thanks Leesy, i'll check with the builder to see what sort of wiring they have planned for me, and I think you are correct that the trench is included. _____________________________ Building with Dennis Family Homes Flinders 331 Classic Cascades on Clyde http://www.heathershawhouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Cascades on Clyde 349May 27, 2010 2:35 pm Hi Everyone, My partner & I have built in Cascades On Clyde (Yammerbook Way) and we had a lot of problems with the fibre optic stuff.. Yes there is a trench that needs to be dug - it is for the conduit that the cables run through to the Telstra Pit.. There is an existing conduit from the Telstra pit but it only runs 5 meters into your property (that was the case with us anyway). So the builders had to provide one from the house to the existing one. We went 5 weeks without a home phone or the correct tv (had to watch it off rabbit ears).. I told my builder that I wanted to be reimbursed for my mobile as it was their mistake the conduit was forgotten... Our builder also had forgotten a patch cable for the internet (thats to our neighbour its all good). It was very frustration at the time & I had people say: we dont do it, its not our responsibility etc.. I dont care who does it I just wanted it done.. Thankfully all is fixed now.. Hope you get it all sorted.. Plan - Inspired Homes Builder - Hermitage Homes All good & settled in!! Re: Cascades on Clyde 350May 27, 2010 2:37 pm Kezza03.. that sounds IDENTICAL to my problem (6 weeks, no phone/net/tv and counting!!) Re: Cascades on Clyde 351May 27, 2010 2:49 pm aaronhoughton Kezza03.. that sounds IDENTICAL to my problem (6 weeks, no phone/net/tv and counting!!) Hi Aaron, Yes it does. Ours was due to the builder forgetting the conduit.... Then when the builder sent someone out to assess the sitation we found the exisiting conduit one part way under the drive way. So they then had to re-locate the whole wiring/box and the run the cables from another pit... Is yours delayed because of the builder or because of Telstra's contractors being so busy to get it connected.... I ended calling Future Vision (who are a contrator that connects the phone & tv) direct instead of going through Telstra as they do not have clue when someone would be out due to their lack of communication with the contractors... Plan - Inspired Homes Builder - Hermitage Homes All good & settled in!! Re: Cascades on Clyde 352May 27, 2010 3:07 pm I have copped it all.. I have taken a day or so off of work as I was told to be there when they got on site, 10 different appointment times that DIDNT happen, finally got a bloke from Cartel Communications (a telstra subbie) to mount the box on the wall and said there was a blockage in the pipe and not his job to fix it.. weeks on top of that another subbie rang me today and said it WAS his job to fix it as the blockage was in my front yard.. Both of them arent prepared to dig it up cos of the gas pipes, so the builders are coming in tomorrow apprently to assess what to do.. Too many people assessing and not enough action and no one is responsible.. its absolutely ridiculous! Re: Cascades on Clyde 354May 28, 2010 8:37 am I don't know who dug the trench but apparently someone is coming out again today to have a look! Re: Cascades on Clyde 355May 28, 2010 6:14 pm Hi... Thats terrible that you guys had to go through that because somebody didnt do their job properly. Im fortunate I made sure the builder was doing everything they had to so we could get connected straight away. I really believe some of these builders just dont have a clue... the optic fibre is an outstanding invention but you gotta have the right people on the job. I really hope you get sorted out soon because it is just not fair... it shouldnt be that hard. Building the "Yarra Studio" by Premier Builders/Longvue Homes. So we couldn't keep onto of things. We had our neighbour send us pics at each stage so we could make payments (as we were never there we didnt have the site meetings at each stage).. Our Liason Officer tried to tell me they were not familiar with the fibre optic - which is bullsh*t as they had built another house in Yammerbook Way as well, before ours. Its all sorted now though I out ours down to a lazt site supervisor... Not the actual building company. Plan - Inspired Homes Builder - Hermitage Homes All good & settled in!! Re: Cascades on Clyde 358Jun 02, 2010 8:12 pm Hi all, We are just under 3 weeks away from our completion and have started looking into the telstra velocity rates/plans. Was wondering what you had to connect to in order to get the $1500 rebate?? Can you only connect internet or do you need to connect both internet and home phone? I think i remember reading somewhere that you need to connect to both to be eligible? Can anyone confirm this or has anyone only connected internet and received the rebate? One more question on the internet speed... We were looking at the Velocity Rate Card... http://www.telstra.com.au/smartcommunity/assets/velocity-rate-card.pdf Are the turbo liberty speeds fast/ fast enough or is it worth upgrading to the elite liberty plan? Thanks in advance Hi Leiper, I believe you need to take out 2 services (eg: Phone, Internet or Foxtel) to receive the rebate of $1500. If unsure call Telstra Smart Community on 1800 008 994 and enquire.. I have the Turbo Liberty & it seems fast enough for me. If you go with the Torbo Liberty & feel it is not fast enough you can upgrade to the Elite Liberty at no charge. You can also change your internet plan once a month at no charge, either go higher or lower.. Hope it helped. Plan - Inspired Homes Builder - Hermitage Homes All good & settled in!!
