Taylor's Hill v Caroline Springs v Craigieburn 42Dec 18, 2008 12:59 pm Yeah i do, Nice quiet good people, generally good quality houses.
No small blocks. good access to keilors plans and Watergardens t/stations. and good shops. Caroline and Watergardens. Plus access to good schools( by delfin) near by Re: Which Estate? Taylor's Hill v Caroline Springs v Craigieburn 43Dec 19, 2008 7:19 am Yes, I live in Taylors Hil and concur with borg's comments...quiet streets which are nearby to most facilities that you need. See my first post on page 2.
I'd suggest that you ignore any silly comments about neighbouring suburbs as you can easily make reference to every suburb being linked to a high incidents of some sort of crime Re: Which Estate? Taylor's Hill v Caroline Springs v Craigieburn 44Dec 19, 2008 8:45 am Louie, I didn't mean to be offensive, I think Taylors Hill is a nice area. I was just pointing out somethings to be aware of considering that the people asking are not from Melbourne, and wouldn't have much of an idea about differing suburbs. It would be like saying Trafalgar is a nice place to live, however it is next to Moe.
Also those neighbouring suburbs are suburbs that you have to go through if you use public transport, I know personally i wouldn't want to be on a train at night going through Sunshine and St Albans, but if you are happy to or don't need public transport , good luck to you! Hmmm this is interesting. I used to live in Hillside so used the train that goes through those "nasty" suburbs. I used it night after concerts and the footy. And after a drink after exams at the exhibition centre. Like I said never had a problem. I grew up in Blackburn, Forest Hill and Kilsyth. So I used the Lilydale and Belgrave trains. Through the lovley areas of Camberwell etc.... I did have trouble on those trains.... more times than I can count. I've said it befor eon this forum and I'll say it again.... there's rubbish everywhere.... there's good people everywhere. The rubbish isn't confined to the West and the good people are not confined to leafy east or bayside. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Which Estate? Taylor's Hill v Caroline Springs v Craigieburn 47Dec 19, 2008 7:03 pm Okay I am obviously mistaken. If your saying that you would feel safer sitting on a train in St Albans than Camberwell then so be it. Camberwell is a terrible suburb to live in, thats why they have a police station that does 2 jobs a day, typically shop thefts compared to Sunshine Police that routinely do 15 jobs a shift, including drug dealing / assaults/ robberies and I am stating this from my own experience.
. At least all the differing opinons offer Jas and Rach a bit of feedback so they can make an informed decision. I am sure wherever they build that it would be fine! Re: Which Estate? Yes I understand what you are saying but I am also stating from my own experience. Yes Camberwell is a horrible to live in in some ways.... Plenty of well to do people with spoilt brat kids that think anything is theirs to take. All I'm saying is that your posts seem to be having a go at the west. I've lived in both.... and our cars were broken into in the east.... not the west. I don't like any area better or worse. That's my point there's good and bad everywhere. But to come on here and have a go at the west is pretty offensive. There's plenty of us on here. And yes, some live in the suburbs you are having a go at. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Which Estate? Taylor's Hill v Caroline Springs v Craigieburn 49Dec 19, 2008 8:16 pm Craigieburn gets my vote but i am biased as we are building there.
If your partner is a teacher there are currently new schools being built just around the corner from us and there are more planned, 4 in all from kindergarten to secondary school, so good jobs going there. I love ther area and think that it has a great feel. But my honest advice is that an area and a house are what you make of it. You can make any place what you want it to be if you are prepared to. My husband works on Sydney Rd and has been told by tohers in his office that live just near our new house that the travel is about 30 minutes @ 7.15 in the morning. There are lots of options for shopping that are all a small drive around from us with lots of warehouse shopping to be found. Maybe go and have a really good look at each area and see which one 'feels' more like you kind of place. Good luck and keep us upto date of where you finally choose. I suppose I have had seen some bad stuff out that way. Well to do 'spoilt brats' from Camberwell are more inclined to get drink grog at parties and mouth off, smash a letterbox on their way home, not stick a syringe to your throat and rob you. Of the subject and not trying to be smart but the reason there are more thefts from cars in Camberwell is that 1) The cars are more expensive and offer a greater incentive for thieves 2) The people living in these areas have more disposable income and therefore more items actually worth stealing such as gps, etc. Maybe actually, they don't value there possessions as much and leave stuff in the car, as compared to someone who has actually worked hard to get something, wouldn't go leaving it ****** around in the car. Anyway, I did not mean to have a go at the west, I would happily buy in moonee ponds, footscray, etc the proximity to the city is excellent. And I agree with you every area has good people and scum. I suppose just do your research and hope for the best! Re: Which Estate? Taylor's Hill v Caroline Springs v Craigieburn 51Dec 20, 2008 9:55 pm Hi there Joles
Just looking through a couple of other threads and realise you are living in Wallan. I was just wondering why you are living there considering you could have bought a block in Taylors Hill (west) or Cragieburn (north)for nearly the same price and be close to the city, compared to the the 40 - 50 min trip when the train runs from Wallan (north). and secondly you commented "But to come on here and have a go at the west is pretty offensive. There's plenty of us on here" I cannot fathom how you can claim to live in the west when you are clearly living in Wallan which is 50km north of Melbourne. Wallan is probably the most you can go and still be accessable to Melbourne considering it is a 0 - 50 min train ride each morning. I lived in Wangaratta as well for 5 years and still play football up there, as I have for the last 10 years. It is strange that people that have lived in the country choose to live in rural setting such as Wallan and Diamond Creek. It maybe have something to do with wanting to live near the city but have the life style and values of the country. I would choose to live in Wallan or Hidden Valley or Doreen as well and be quite prepared to travel the distance to the city, just to live in the better environment of that area, obviously you have a similar opinion as you are living there. Maybe you should have quantified your position before offering advice, by stating why you chose that location, maybe it has something to do with living in a nice quiet, peaceful area, which is a great area to raise a family, bigger blocks , like I suggested in my first reply before I was criticised. Lastly Wakeboardandy, if you read this RUDD has committed to building train line to South Morang. So if you need public transport in Doreen you can shoot over there. I would imagine that the train line will eventually be dragged over there to Doreen, considering the amount of development that is going on out there! Re: Which Estate? I am from Wangaratta as well.. what a small world we live in... Will be heading back up there on wednesday for xmas with the parents and family... You do appreciate the country lifestyle once you leave it.. but you don't miss the isolation and not have the city facilities... so that is why I think the outer suburbs like mernda/doreen/cragieburn and more regional like wallan are fantastic... as you can have that country lifestyle and still be within an hour of the city and even closer to other facilities. As far as public transport goes, the vline at donnybrook (which is about 8mins from laurimar) sounds more comfy to me and less stops!! Anyway I don't work in the city at the moment but have lots of choices if I happen to ever move in there for work. Re: Which Estate? She has bought a block in Wallan but the house is not built yet. Mrs B Re: Which Estate? Taylor's Hill v Caroline Springs v Craigieburn 54Dec 21, 2008 6:30 am hunts01,
I've lived (in order), Blackburn North, (0-6), Forest Hill (6-17), Kilsyth (17-21..... the on and off out or the family home), as an adult I have lived in Balwyn, (share house) Box Hill, (share house) Wangaratta, Hillside, Footscray, (where I currantly am), and back to Kilsyth for periods. I think that makes me reasonably qualified to comment on both the east and the west. hunts01 I'm wondering whether you have ever lived in the west.... or only worked there? Or can just pull out the odd statistic? I've bought land in Wallan where I am building, but I do not live there, nor have I lived there previously. Why did I go to Wallan? 1639m2 for $155k has a lot to do with it. 920 lots on nearly 1000 hectares on my estate. It will never be built up as such. I can still get to the city relatively easily, in fact it is far quicker than when I was in Kilsyth both by car and public transport. So I have all the advantages of living in suburbia, but this is what I see from my block.... no contest for me. (Sorry for the hi-jack Jas & Rach but I felt I should explain myself when it seems hunts thinks I'm being "misleading" ) http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2008-08-22_17-05-50_22082008196.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Which Estate? Taylor's Hill v Caroline Springs v Craigieburn 56Dec 22, 2008 10:18 pm We're in Taylor's Hill too....well...building!! Exciting! Had our tender appointment today and we have a fairly flat block...slope of only 100mm and we need a P class slab which means that our portico and alfresco area will be concreted as part of the slab too which is good for us. Came in under budget which was great! So I have all the advantages of living in suburbia, I drove from harbour town today at docklands (on my way to wangaratta) and to the wallan exit it only took 33 mins... so not bad for 50 odd km's out of town... it took me about 45mins to get to harbour town from kilsyth!! It took me about 27 mins to get to mernda/doreen last week from near the telstra dome.. so only about a 6 min difference to wallan and it is over 20km further out!! Re: Which Estate?
