Pest Control stick on meter box Re: Building Clarendon Brighton 247Aug 20, 2009 10:38 am I haven't updated this thread lately....because we have been busy!! Our landscaper has been working over the last few weeks. While building the retaining walls around the back, they spent quite a bit of time just to wheel barrel in roadbase and stuff to level off the back for paving. Turf at the back are also done (we didn't get Zoysia due to supplier not recommending install during winter, we went for sir walter instead, sorry Fu!!! ) Paving around the back has also started and will probably take a few days. When some of the landscaping are done, pictures will follow But, one of the things I would like to show off....is our timber floor!! It is now complete and looks very NICE!!! I am very happy with the result!!! See for yourself!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I have also been busy myself painting. See the brownish wall above, it was my paintwork first time in my life, not bad for a first timer, right? I initially worried about the colour might turn out too light. But it is not the case now it is done. I am very happy What species are you installing? Show us some pics once done!! You'll be painting everywhere now Indeed. I have painted 3 other feature walls too Building Clarendon Brighton - Done and moved in Sept 2009 Re: Clarendon Brighton - Builder done, my turn to finish it off! 252Aug 21, 2009 7:12 am Eho the floor looks beautiful, Blackbutt was one we were keen on but we ended up going for the "Spotted Gum", should be installed early next week. Same here our block is a mess, had my friend around there yesterday felling our 4 foot grass. Did your SS leave a gap under the skirting boards for the floor Eho? Or did the flooring guys sort it out? Anyway looking mighty grand. Re: Clarendon Brighton - Builder done, my turn to finish it off! 253Aug 21, 2009 10:12 am Heathen Did your SS leave a gap under the skirting boards for the floor Eho? Or did the flooring guys sort it out? We took the painful+expensive route. We deleted all skirting from the contract. We had to order our own skirting boards. We got the flooring guys to cut and fit the boards for us. I then filled/sanded/painted the boards after. (I still have all downstairs to paint this weekend!!!) The end result is...I have the skirting above the floorboards!! I am still trying to convince myself this is the BEST way - not the MOST STUPID way. So, do you have skirting now? Are you going to have beading or you will pull skirting out and refit them after? Building Clarendon Brighton - Done and moved in Sept 2009 Re: Clarendon Brighton - Builder done, my turn to finish it off! 254Aug 21, 2009 12:22 pm Eho, I think this is the better way. My SS insisted to put in the skirting boards. My timber guy spent a day to take them off and he will have to refix it. This will cost me at elast $500. I still have to get the painting guy to come back to repaint soem skirting boards as they have been damaged and have to be replaced by new ones. Re: Clarendon Brighton - Builder done, my turn to finish it off! 256Aug 21, 2009 5:30 pm I wish we had gone for an upgrade to bigger skirtings - hindsight wisdom. Our tiler had to compromise a little bit - he usually lays a complete bed over the slab for a perfect finish, but because of our small skirtings he had to go with the raw slab. Fortunately it looks OK, no obvious hills or valleys, just a small step of about 1" into the wet areas. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Happy campers. Re: Clarendon Brighton - Builder done, my turn to finish it off! 257Aug 21, 2009 7:49 pm Your floors look fantastic Eho! you did go with Damien, didn't you?
What's the finish on your boards? tang oil? We've also gone with Blackbutt but the standard grade and wide (130mm) boards. Good painting too! Re: Clarendon Brighton - Builder done, my turn to finish it off! 258Aug 22, 2009 6:34 pm Jochicho Your floors look fantastic Eho! you did go with Damien, didn't you? What's the finish on your boards? tang oil? Damien (well his guys) installed our floor this week before the kitchens go down next week (yep, we were lucky that our builder let us do the flooring during the build) but they won't get sanded and polished until the end of the build so they don't get damaged, I can't wait to see them finished! We've also gone with Blackbutt but the standard grade and wide (130mm) boards. Good painting too! Yea, damien and his guys did the floor. The finish is some oil modified finish semi gloss. This is what he recommends. I think the wider boards will look much better!!
