Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 14, 2008 4:18 pm We're undertaking the design of our own house, and trying to figure out what is a good size bedroom, both master and remaining 3 bedrooms?
For the general bedrooms, the sizes vary from 3000 x 3000 up to 4000 x 4000... For the most part, big is better, but big costs more too!!! What is the optimum size people have found? Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 2Dec 14, 2008 4:32 pm our other 2 bedrooms will be 3.5x3m... not including BIR. Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 3Dec 14, 2008 4:35 pm Check out this thread.... plenty of discussion on bedroom sizes for both master and minor bedrooms.

But the plan we're looking at has this; Master bed 4.0 x 2.6m Bed 2 3.0 x 3.1m Bed 3 3.0 x 2.9m Bed 4 3.0 x 2.9m Its only a single story house so I cant expect anything grand but Im sure thats adequate.... I dont particularly want any future children to have televisions, desks etc in their room.. Would a double bed fit in the room? Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 8Dec 15, 2008 9:52 am Here is my opinion on the matter.
My belief is that a 3 bedroom house shouldnt have small brooms. But a four bedroom house can have slightly smaller rooms. But in either way i would not be going smaller than 3.2 by 3.5. I think 3.3 by 3.6 if a very good size. (not for master) Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 9Dec 15, 2008 9:53 am We are wondering if it would be ok to put one of our kids in the office for a while, if our oldest son decides to move out with us? He is 20, and work will be over an hour drive from new house. so we didn't build a room in for him.. he will probably board with some friends..but.. just in case.... the room is 3250 x 2470, with a BIR that runs along one of the shortest walls.
Would a single bed even fit with maybe a small book shelf or dresser? -Sha Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 10Dec 15, 2008 9:54 am We have 3 x 4 each for the kids as we wanted to give them decent size rooms for all their stuff. They won't be big rooms but they should comfortably fit their beds and desks, plus they both have big robes on top of that.
We had to cut 50cm off the house due to our small block size and we decided to take it from the front of the house, eg our room, rather than the back, their's, as we think they need it more than us. Our room will be about 4x4. Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 11Dec 15, 2008 9:56 am Sha, that will be fine. It will be small but livable. Hubby and I currently live in a room that size! We have two bedrooms in this unit, the smallest is about 2.5 x 3, and the other is 3 x 5 and we have the kids in the big room. Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 12Dec 15, 2008 10:07 am Thanks Rachelle
I have been stressing over this issue.. even dreaming about it.. If you are both living in there, I am guessing you have atleast a double or maybe even queen size bed.. should be heaps of room Thank you very much for your reply -Sha Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 13Dec 15, 2008 10:37 am Here we go, I think this is the 3.0x2.9?

Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 14Dec 15, 2008 10:54 am Yes, we have a queen size bed, two big drawer units and also two wardrobes! Not much room to move around though, when the wardrobe doors are open they touch the bed so I can stand in front of my wardrobe with both doors open but then have to close them to move lol.
If you have built ins in that space he will be fine, especially if he's happy with a single bed. Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 15Dec 15, 2008 11:02 am We are thinking of our 7 year old daughter for that room -she is the youngest..
She will want some sort of dresser and shelving. She is very much a girl She has 4 brothers, no sisters If the room is big enough, then we may make it her room even if our oldest son doesnt move with us, and that way the the two boys wont have to share! (they are 10 and 13, so would like to give them a room of their own) .. They will be very happy with that lol Our 17 year old may not be living with us for very long anyway, as he is going to Uni next year, so may board there or with friends in town.. Oh the joys of moving out of town.. (makes the kids leave home! lol) -Sha (the wicked Mother of the West) Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 16Dec 15, 2008 7:46 pm Bed Sizes are as follows..
Single Bed 92cm x 187cm King Single 106cm x 203cm Double Bed 137cm x 187cm Queen Bed 153cm x 203cm King Bed 183cm x 203cm Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 17Dec 16, 2008 9:35 am Hi Sha
I think that size will be fine....our office will have the computer, desk filing cabinet etc. in it and it has a built in robe, but we,re also going to put a sofa bed in there and it,s 3.5 x3.0. We wanted the bedrooms to be a reasonable size so that the kids can fit all of their 'stuff' in there and our eldest has a queen size bed (only 14 and already 6 ft.) as well as his keyboard, numerous guitars etc. Our bedroom sizes are Master 4.3 x 5.7 Bed 2 3.7 x 3.9 Bed 3 3.5 x 3.9 Bed 4 (study) 3.5 x 3.0 Bed 5 4.2 x 3.8 Cheers Mel Building on 9 acres Re: What is the ideal bedroom size? 18Dec 16, 2008 2:03 pm I would recommend that all minor bedrooms be at least 3.1 metres long - this allows the option of arranging two single beds in an 'L shaped' configuration in one corner.
Our previous house had a bedroom 3 metres wide, and it was so frustrating having just 5cm too little space to fit two beds!
