Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 12, 2008 9:03 pm In our internal garage we will obviously be having some form of storage and garden chemicals and stuff. Just wondering what others do to make the internal garage inaccessible to the children but EASY for us to get into from both sides. I have thought of deadlocks but that involves a key enery single time. Maybe have the lock put in higher??
any suggestions? Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Cor@l Homes on a flat 4473m block!! And lov'n it!!! Re: Internal garage question 3Dec 12, 2008 9:42 pm yep, we also have a double garage as well. But I will also be storing sensitive to heat chemicals in our internal garage... I don't want them exploding , as our colourbond garage has NO insulation and gets very hot.
We will also have storage stuff in there and I dont want the kids playing in there. Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Cor@l Homes on a flat 4473m block!! And lov'n it!!! Re: Internal garage question 4Dec 12, 2008 9:56 pm How about childproof devices? There must be something available for most doors.
Or you could instal a lockable cupboard within the garage. That way you still get to go in and out easily, but the dangerous stuff is safely locked away. Re: Internal garage question 5Dec 12, 2008 10:14 pm I went through the same dilemma at contract!
I am thinking of probably just putting in one of those hook clip thingies or one of those chain thingies that you sometimes see on the inside of people's front doors. I'll put it on the inside ( house side ) of the garage door, and put it on when we are home - to keep the kids in ( or out, depending on which way you look at it! ) Re: Internal garage question 6Dec 12, 2008 10:27 pm another option, hide them above the ceiling. Do what Matt did, install a ceiling ladder and hide things there... Re: Internal garage question 7Dec 13, 2008 7:56 am Just put locks on your cupboards. Or alternatively mount the door handle up higher on the door. One of our rental properties was built in the '40s - was great because DD couldn't reach any of the doorhandles. This house we are currently living in is newly built and she can open every single door in the house - even the front door because the stupid Gainsborough doorhandle doesn't have a way to securely lock it from the inside Some things are worth waiting for.
