Any idea on prices for H-Beams per metre? I just received a quote for 23m of retaining wall starting at 1.7m in height decreasing down to 700mm in height. Came in at $14k cash. I was expecting less than half that! This did not include agi pipe or the red rocks. Just trying to work out cost of materials. I am expecting the job will require about 30 metres of H-Beam, and about 50 x 3m lengths of H4 treated pine. I think the cost of the 3m lengths are about $20 each so that's about 1k. Would expect another 1k for concrete. Em Re: Retaining walls 2Dec 10, 2008 10:54 am "Provide approximately 21 lm of retaining wall at 1.5 high to rear sides and rear boundary of property. Using 3000 x 150 x 150 ‘H’ beams as well as ‘C’ beams supporting treated pine timber sleepers 200 x 75. Support beams to be 1.5 below ground level encased in concrete. - $7,350.00" - this did not include filling it. Fi has moved in!! Re: Retaining walls 3Dec 10, 2008 11:25 am Thanks Brittany,
Did that price include agi pipe, plastic and crushed rock? Was that the builder's price? My quote came from a contractor who I sourced through Service Central. Almost fell off my chair when I read the quote. My rear wall will be very similar in dimensions to yours, maybe a bit less because my drop on one side is considerably less than the other so I cannot believe the $14k quote. thanks again Re: Retaining walls 4Dec 10, 2008 12:09 pm Our price didn't include any fill which I didn't realize until it was finished - I was waiting then asked the question. The builder is convinced we should put a pool in. My budget isn't going to stretch there. Did not ask the question about agi pipe - but they have put in a heap of plumbing for the fill which i have since requested. Fi has moved in!! Re: Retaining walls 5Dec 10, 2008 12:13 pm Mel&Em Any idea on prices for H-Beams per metre? I just received a quote for 23m of retaining wall starting at 1.7m in height decreasing down to 700mm in height. Came in at $14k cash. I was expecting less than half that! This did not include agi pipe or the red rocks. According to this website: http://www.landscapingsolutions.com.au/pricing.html A h-beam for a wall 700mm high will cost you about $100.57 and one that is 1700mm will cost $214.64. So, if you were building a retaining wall at just 700m high at 23m in length with a beam every 1.8m you would need about 12-13 beams. Total price of beams would be around the $1300 mark. Sorry, that's as much as I can help. I'm not sure how to factor in the other $12,700... [sneakersss] Re: Retaining walls 6Dec 10, 2008 2:58 pm Thanks YYSIM
That was very helpful. Just worked out that the materials he was going to use would have cost be about $4500 (and that's if I bought them retail). Considering he was not going to supply plastic or crushed rock, he was going to make $9500 for using his dingo and his labour. Re: Retaining walls 7Dec 10, 2008 3:56 pm So why not buy the materials & do the job yourself?? Re: Retaining walls 8Dec 10, 2008 7:08 pm Looks like that might be the way to go, but I'll wait for the other quotes to come in first. I think that $2k or $3k margin should be enough for a few days work, certainly not $11k. Has anyone else come across this sort of exorbitant quoting? Re: Retaining walls 9Dec 10, 2008 9:42 pm We are getting approx 45m of retaining walls on our block at a cost of $12.7K. Part of the walls are over 1m high thereby needing engineering drawings I believe. We are building with PD.
Hope that this helps. Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6035 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11104 Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11718 |
