Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 09, 2008 6:27 pm I am so disillusioned at the moment. We are meant to be signing the contract with M'con this week and we just keep hitting brick walls. The costs just keep going up, there is no communication from head office, the upgrade prices are ridiculous and i'm just losing the plot. I don't know whether to walk away or persevere in the hope that once building gets started things will improve. We fell in love with the Tribeca (that's our first mistake) and now we don't know whether we can find something better or just pay the extra $10k they are now stating is for our slab upgrade and other incidental costs which have all just appeared on our final contract which they seem to have an answer for each of them to justify them. Our site costs our now up to almost $30K for a block that does not have much slope. Very confused.... Re: Has anyone had a great build experience with M'con? 2Dec 09, 2008 7:06 pm Hmmm... take your engineering report to an independant company. For $500 you can get a fair assessment.
Trust your gut. I walked away from M3tricon just before site start.... it was one of the hardest thing I've ever done. But it was the right thing to do... for me. I have since had others look at my engineering... we had no concrete piers nor piering allowance .... so God only knows type of costs they were going to try to hit us with. You may be having pre signing jitters.... you may have alarm bells going off in your head for a reason. Only you can answer that. Sorry, I'm not being much help, but if your gut is telling you something is not right...... listen to it. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. We pulled off from M'con just 2 days before signing the contract. Why? Wee, the same reason, their cost seems to be going up , up and up. We selected a M1 house, and our final price was $60K more than any of their collection houses. FUNNY??? No it was not. Poor communication, lazy staff and lack of commitment, thats what we got. We shifted to PD, and now building a bigger house and that too Prestige, just $10k more then what M'con quoted us and we have got way lot of uogrades here. I am not trying to compare here, just telling you our experience with M'con. On, other hand, one of my colleagues at work is building Grandview 36 with M'con, her contract period ends in Feburary 2009, but she is now getting the handover this Friday . And she has been extremely happy with the pace and service. I am sorry, i know i am not of much help, but just thought you might be interested to know as many experiences as you could to make an informed decission. Good Luck and as Joles mentioned, follow your gut. Re: Has anyone had a great build experience with M'con? 4Dec 10, 2008 10:23 am We have just followed our gut and signed anyway. We are 10k over budget already due to H class slab that we did not factor in to begin with and we still have our appt with Studio M to go. Good luck with your decision. We sure did not take this lightly as we are only 22 and still have alot to learn. Re: Has anyone had a great build experience with M'con? 5Dec 10, 2008 11:49 am Hi,
We are building the Lindeman 27 with M'Con and so far so good. We were lucky to get fixed site costs, which seem to be the problem for many people. The sales consultant was very good in estimating costs and she even overestimated on a few key items (e.g. Carpets), just to ensure that we could budget for the best. The people at Studio 51 were helpful, often pointing out things we had overlooked or not even considered - like adding a surge protector to the house. It would have been good if there was more to choose from at the Studio, but it suited us anyway. This site manager is excellent and he was very receptive to Kevin's report, getting everything fixed in about 7 days. Overall Kevin was happy with the building. The building is progressing a little faster than I expected and everything is looking good. Adrian T. Re: Has anyone had a great build experience with M'con? 6Dec 23, 2008 8:25 am We are building the Denver 31 in Geelong area. We have been very happy with the service from everyone so far. We are flying along, we had contracts signed within a month of paying deposit and building started 2 weeks later. Will start a post with build and pics soon. We have the frame completed and my building supervisors says they are only having a 2 week break for Xmas.
Our price was fine did not change much except for the options we added. They have had to double glaze 4 windows and have not charged for this. So far so good. I do enjoy watching that tik tok inspector from Victoria but he does go a little… 12 81883 How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5930 |
