Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: May Be Slightly Delayed.. 81May 06, 2009 9:17 pm I understand completely, 100%. because i am going through the same. PCI done back in March, and nothing happen until approx 3 weeks ago.. the builder is trying to hurry because my contract completion date is this Friday. I originally have final handover schedule today and in the very last moment, reschedule to Friday.. it is sooooooo close, but i just don't have the house... and the most annoying thing is, i went to the house this afternoon seeing them fixing most of the defects but still, i can find new defects... very annoying.. Hope yours is going fine! So close, hang in there My karma ran over your dogma Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: May Be Slightly Delayed.. 83May 08, 2009 10:36 pm Thanks guys. I guess we've just gotta hang in there! I suppose it wont be too long now, but it's still hard just waiting and not knowing. claego - how annoying for you!! i hope they get it all done quickly and on time and you get your keys ASAP! haywgl - How's your build going? Hope everything is going smoothly. Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: May Be Slightly Delayed.. 84May 19, 2009 10:09 am Well guys.. it's been a long year.. a long, painstaking and sometimes heartbreaking process, but we are finally getting handover THIS FRIDAY afternoon!! Bar any complete disasters with the minor touch ups in the next two days, I think (one month after PCI, but I DONT CARE!!) we are finally going to have a home! I did a pre-final inspection walk through with SS yesterday morning and it looks like almost everything has been fixed and taken care of. I'm pretty happy with everything that I saw except my bi-folds. There's some rivers of sap running down two of the doors which I think means that the wood hasnt been cured properly and left to dry fully. Secondly, there's scratches on two of the panes of glass of the bi-folds and also our meals window which will have to be replaced after handover (I have that in writing!) cuz they cant get the glazier in at such short notice. SO.. the glass needs to be repaired before we can fix the wood. Another thing I pointed out to SS, but he noticed anyway, was that the first entry-way just after our front door is still not straight. It's already been repaired once, but it's still crooked and the top-plate is still warped and I wasnt happy with it.. neither was SS. So that needs to be re-straightened, re-plastered and re-painted by Friday. I dont know whether it'll be done on time, but I've been assured that everything will be ready by then. We'll just have to see... Other than those things, our timber doors just need a final coat of clear varnish and the cleaning lady has her job to do and.. ta da!! Home sweet home! Well.. except for the floors.. LOL! We will hopefully be getting that done in the next couple of weeks.. as well as the driveway. We've finally decided on floating timber in Blackbutt. I've fallen in love with the colour and wont have anything else! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their bits of advice throughout this process. This forum has been a wealth of information and support through those trying times, and I dont think that we would have come out this sane if we didnt know that others were going through the same thing, so THANK YOU to all who have put your 2 cents in. We really appreciate it. We'll keep you posted!! Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: T minus 2 days!! 85May 19, 2009 10:46 am Congrat!! Good to hear that things are coming along well.. Hope you have a smooth handover on Friday.. Thanks very much for the offer. We cant wait to get in there! But will have to wait for the flooring to be installed so wont be for a while yet.. hopefully not more than two months to get everything done. I havent been able to get time off work so far, but I'm persisting and hopefully am able to get a week off in about 3 weeks. About our problem on the corner, hopefully it will be sorted out soon. I'm tired of always seeing that hunk of junk parked half on my font bit of dirt!! Maybe we should make a complaint after we get the keys. I mean, I dont want to cause problems with the neighbours, but it is definately unsightly!! I'm glad that SS keeps his word and does things after handover. Hopefully it's not too much trouble to get the few things sorted out afterwards. joles and claego - Thank you very much! We hope it goes smoothly as well.. I dont think there will be any major issues on Friday.. *fingers crossed* Also have some updated pics for you guys! I will be bringing my spirit level to see whether it's still wonky! Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: T minus 2 days!! 89May 19, 2009 11:17 pm Hey congratulations majika The house has turned out lovely i will be interested in what sort of window covering you will put on your 2nd bathroom and how you landscape. Yes that door frame does look ******* maybe it hasnt been bulked up properly , think thats the term Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: OFFICIALLY JINXED!!!! 90May 22, 2009 5:27 pm I believe the words I used in one of my previous posts were “barring complete disaster”… WELL.. It is now Friday afternoon and we haven’t signed any papers and don’t have keys of any sort. I am still hanging on to the final payment in my hot little hand... I think that can be classified as some sort of disaster? *majikalmushroom throws a rather large tantrum on the floor* My partner received a call from our SS yesterday saying that they were still fiddling around with our wonky entry way bulk-head and wall (see last pic on previous post) and still couldn’t get it straight. And also, PD has decided that they would level our concrete in the master bedroom where they didn’t do it during frame stage when it was picked up by Kev during our inspection, but now have decided to do it due to whatever reason they have. OH MY GOD!!!! I just want my house!! We're apparently getting handover on Tuesday now... Better late than never I guess... Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: OFFICIALLY JINXED!!!! 91May 22, 2009 7:33 pm Oh no!! how frustrating for you, but best to get these things sorted though. Keeping my fingers crossed that tuesday is the day for you. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: OFFICIALLY JINXED!!!! 92May 24, 2009 4:29 pm Thanks Hels.. here's hoping that it's really and truly Tuesday. I guess the thing we want most is to have everything perfect before we get the keys so we dont have any major problems before our 3 month check. Like I said, we're not in a rush to move in, but there's things we want to do ASAP.. like the flooring! I actually managed to get a week off (mid-June was the only time I could get for heaven's sakes!!) so hopefully we can get most of that done at that time. By the way... your place is looking great so far!! Hope everything is going well! Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: OFFICIALLY JINXED!!!! 93May 24, 2009 7:42 pm Aargh!! I'm sorry things haven't quite worked out the way they should have. On the bright side, better to get these things fixed BEFORE handover. Trying to get them done after is a nightmare, believe me... Fingers crossed for Tuesday! Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: OFFICIALLY JINXED!!!! 94May 25, 2009 9:55 am Thanks kek.. Believe me, we're trying to get as many of these little bits and pieces fixed before handover as I'm sure I wont have the time or the patience to get them fixed afterwards! Just hoping that while they're fixing things now that they should have fixed at frame stage (the leveling of the master br concrete), they've also managed to get the glazier in to replace the 3 panes of glass that were scratched and needed to be replaced. They've had an extra 5 days for pete's sake!! Oh the frustration.. 23 and a half hrs to go... not saying it too loud just in case!! Re: Our Homey - HANDOVER: The countdown begins!! We've finally got the keys and groovy garage remotes and yes shaz.. the standard move-in curtains.. hee hee and are very happy! We've got the floor going down in about a week or so, and then we can move in! We're still doing little bits and pieces like putting in towel rails and toilet paper holders, and painting the moldings and will be doing some feature walls before the floor goes down. Will post some pics when it's all done! And I havent forgotten about dropping by to say hi shaz just letting you settle in! In my opinion just a few more indoor plants and you're done.
