Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 20, 2007 8:20 pm I am just starting to go through the initial tender process with Porter Davis Homes Western office Building the Hamilton 34 which after some alterations is now a 39. Love to hear from anyone building with or has built with Porter Davis. Re: Porter Davis Homes Melbourne 2Jan 20, 2007 9:42 pm G'Day Axeman
We are also building with PD in the West at Tarneit. We have gone through the tender, colour selections, tile selections and contract with no problems whatsoever. We are set to have a Feb site start, but the tile to our land has not been release yet (soon I am told), which is making us a bit anxious as it is now mid-Jan and we must have the title before site start. Your house choice is great! We would have gone for one in the prestige range, but finances would not permit as we are doing the bridging finance thing with our current home. We are building the Francis 26 with a few modifications, as we thought this had the best floor plan for our purposes. We put an alfresco on, and got the garage extended. We have a raised ceiling height, SS appliances, quartz benchtops, glass splashback, pot drawers and microwave space included in the kitchen. We decided to do our own flooring after completion, mainly to do with stretching finances. Good luck with everything, I will keep an eye out for further posts on PD. Cheers Tony Re: Porter Davis Homes Melbourne 3Jan 21, 2007 12:17 pm I've been looking at building a new home in an established area (Northern Suburbs of Melbourne) and Porter Davis seems very professional and easy to work with.
A couple of questions for those who have built with PD. 1. Do they build outside the housing estates and, if so, are there any differences to how they approach you job. 2. When changing their initial plans, how easy are they, do they allow rooms to be added or extended etc. Thanks, Re: Porter Davis Homes Melbourne 4Jan 21, 2007 2:03 pm Hi
We're currently just over halfway through building the Wentworth 44 (although it's slightly bigger because we extended the garage). Haven't had any problems with PD themselves & the house is going well & is ahead of schedule. The only big issue we have is continual theft & vandalism onsite. Which, whilst it isn't our problem (due to builder's insurance), it leaves quite a sour taste in your mouth when you drive by only to see yet another window stolen or broken or the doors wide open & you know people have traipsed through your house. I was onsite on Friday (after someone had tried to steal one of our installed windows yet again - this is the second time they've tried this) & a couple turned up & the man preceeded to blatantly walk round the property (inside the fencing), trying to find anything loose onsite he could take away with him. I was with friends at the time, who made him leave...but still...the cheek of some people! Good luck with your new home ![]() Re: Porter Davis Homes Melbourne 5Jan 21, 2007 6:51 pm Hi folks
As far as additions to rooms etc we had no problems at all with PD, we are actually buliding in the Promenade Estate at Doreen in the Nth booked in to start in April . I have added a meter onto the rear of our Hamilton 34 and put on a triple garage with no hassels, off to sign the contracts in two weeks and so far all has run smooth except for the site costs which were quoted at $8000 and came back at $15000 at tender and we have a flat block with no rock but they still have to cut and fill 500mm other than that we have alot of the upgrades except for porcilain tiles ( they stain ) love to be kept up to date on how you are all doing... Regards Axeman Re: Porter Davis Homes Melbourne 6Jan 22, 2007 8:06 am G'day all,
There are a few threads about Porter Davis on this site you might want to search for and have a read of. It appears most people building with PD have had a good experience. There is one particularly bad story that was awful for the people building but read that one anyway - it's good to know what to watch out for. There is no problems building outside of an estate and as a few of the others have mentioned, making changes isn't really an issue (depending on the changes you want to make). We start building tomorrrow!!! Can't wait Amber http://ourdreahouse.blogspot.com Re: Porter Davis Homes Melbourne 7Jan 22, 2007 8:07 am G'day all,

Hehe We're also building the Hamilton - in a 29 - and are a week out from contract with a site start of March. Have had no real big problems at this point in time so we're quite content at the moment. I do find our CSR quite slow with her response to our emails/calls/questions but I've learnt to live with it. We are actually ready for settlement on Feb 23 so we are absolutely very excited. We have had nothing but good service from PD and are thrilled with how our home is looking....
They have put the wrong tiles in our 2nd bathroom and in the laundry but that is no biggie as it is the splashback's not the floor so we will get them to fix that up...
