Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 05, 2008 3:34 pm always read these " timber infill above openings" , " brick above openings to front facade". in fact, are those timber/cement parts we see from outside? in fact, brick above openings is for asthetic only? thanks a lot. Spring is here! Hurray! Re: what is timber infill 2Dec 05, 2008 3:43 pm Discussed in this thread here - in the specific post with the colours - you'll notice that at the front of the house - above the windows is brick -but on the sides it's a different product:
https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... cean#90553 Brick infills are more solid that cement sheeting or whatever wooden product is used. Timber infills are significantly cheaper. IMHO brick infills make the house look of a higher quality finish (probably why your builder is doing them on the front - but timber on the rest to save $$s) After 4 years - we're in! In fill 4Dec 05, 2008 4:56 pm The reasion the infill is used is to save money. It should not be called in fill as it fills nothing, it covers, the cap above the windows. It saves bricks. Its generaly cement sheet, painted, yes it looks cheap. The real reasion they dont use brick above windows is the cost of the steel lentel.
Hope Ive helped. KW...... “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Re: what is timber infill 5Dec 05, 2008 4:58 pm brittany According to our builder infills cause drafts and are a cheap finish. Our builder has lots of opinions that cost us money But this time I agree... bricks beats infills...
