Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Why flat roof tiles 2Dec 01, 2008 3:21 pm Nott What's the rationale for flat roof tiles? Unlike colorbond which sounds more eco friendly, flat roof tiles seem the same material with curved ones? Just don't understand why some new estates set such rules. It’s all about the look.......... more streamline but I think it’s a bit of a fad at the moment just because it looks different than the more chunky tiles we see all over the place. I am building in a Estate which had Flat tiles in it design guidelines for the first stage......... we are building in the second stage and that requirement has been dropped, which is good as we had them quoted and it would add another 3.5k to our building costs. I personally think it’s a roof and I will hardly ever notice it as long as it does not leak and/or doesn’t stick out like dogs **** Cozmo http://fromevetoeternity.blogspot.com/ Re: Why flat roof tiles 4Dec 01, 2008 3:38 pm We paid a HUGE premium for flat profile roof tiles - that was something DH was very fussy about - and on ours you can see them, as the roof's very big. We love ours It's a matter of personal taste, i guess! Oh, I love Colorbond, too, but that would have looked ridiculous on our particular house!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Why flat roof tiles 5Dec 01, 2008 4:14 pm Cozmo Nott I personally think it’s a roof and I will hardly ever notice it as long as it does not leak and/or doesn’t stick out like dogs **** Cozmo http://fromevetoeternity.blogspot.com/ You might not notice it but the roof is actually the most visually impacting element on the whole house. Design 101. Re: Why flat roof tiles 7Dec 01, 2008 8:31 pm I agree!
Flat roof tiles look hot! Not a fad for me, they suited the look I wanted to achieve for our home. I had to pay an extra $570 for ours, and was one of the first things I 'needed' as an extra! Love them... Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! hmm...we've got the flat ones as well(almost flat) it has little curves..but its defenitly not the usual 'bumby' 'wavy' styled ones. I agree they look good! you can probably even sleep on them in summer. man i cant wait to try that Re: Why flat roof tiles 10Dec 02, 2008 6:46 am Good Lord! $570? Our tile upgrade cost us over $5,000!
Of course, we did choose the second-most expensive ones out of all the options we could have had.... I love the look though. I keep crossing the road to admire the roof. Re: Why flat roof tiles 11Dec 02, 2008 6:50 am Grace16 Stormy - flat roof tiles for $570???? BARGAIN!!!! Mmmm, after reading that Cozmo was going to pay 3.5K for them, then a bargain it is!! They aren't completely flat...almost. I will have 'Bristile Classic shingle in gunmetal'. They aren't as flat as the Boral ones I have seen, but those weren't available for us to choose. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ They will suit our house, and I love them! Even though it's a double storey, the tiles will still be visible from the street on the single storey garage roof, and from the back garden on the alfresco part. EDIT: Kek...$5K...good grief!! Where they gold lined?? Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! However, I just couldn't get past the issue of not having channels for water runoff from the roof. That and it was going to cost an arm and a leg. On top of the other arm and leg we'd already paid for other upgrades. --Mike Everything I know, I learned from SBS.
