Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 28, 2008 3:46 pm Got a call today to say that we are being credited for our insulation costs.
We had added in 2.0 wall batt insulation to our tender at a cost of $1056. They have had the 5 star rating on the house and 2.0 is required for the 5 star rating which is included in the base price of the house, so they will credit us the $1056 back. When I read on here people saying don't put insulation in until they do the 5 star rating, otherwise you have to pay for it. I thought I had done my money, but I am wrapt that they are giving it back. Nice to see a bit of honesty!! (and a positive thread about a builder ) Re: Thumbs up to PD on Insulation costs 3Nov 28, 2008 3:57 pm woo hoo! go PD!
glad to see they were honest ad are refunding u that money just in time, now u have some extra xmas cash! hehe Re: Thumbs up to PD on Insulation costs 4Nov 28, 2008 7:41 pm hey, back pocket,
i have put in tender for R3.5 batts in the roof for $1307, and after reading here, i sent my CSC an email asking to confirm whether if the 5 star rating requires this batts, the money will be included as PD claims to ensure every house has it as standard. the CSC replied by referrring me to the tender document which only specified solar panels and even said "any additional charges resulting from variations or home location will be calculated from contract drawings and presented to teh client at teh contract meeting". so i was wondering why it didn't state clearly about client not having to pay for materials related to meeting 5 star requirments. (i thought they try not to be open about their charges!) anyway, good to know that you don't have to pay for that. nh Re: Thumbs up to PD on Insulation costs 5Nov 28, 2008 9:52 pm We put R3.5 in the tender for the roof insulation. The 5 star came back at only needing 2.5 in the roof, so we still paid for the upgrade to 3.5 because that is what we wanted in the roof. We also upgraded to two solar panels as well.
My contract appointment was 9/10, and they didn't get the 5 star rating until then I don't think. So maybe yours has not been done yet, if you have not had your contract appointment? Hope this helps Re: Thumbs up to PD on Insulation costs 7Nov 29, 2008 6:12 am Yippee!!!! The exact same thing has happened to me Back Pocket... paid the extra for increased insulation, then found out that it would have been necessary for the builder to wear the costs after the 5 star energy report came through. Just hope that I'll be as lucky as you to get a credit back on those costs. Congrats on your ' win '. Reply 9Nov 29, 2008 7:35 pm Well done to PD.
That is surely something to be excited about! We are at fixing stage, and we upgraded our insulation. R 2.0 wall insulation, in lieu of 1.5. R 4.0 celing insulation, in lieu of 3.5. And yes, we did this only because of 5 star requirements. Regards Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11268 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6191 |
