Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 28, 2008 1:17 pm HI Guys
Couldn't think of a better topic name We plan on having the lovely Rod come in and do some cabling for us and also we will be putting in some soundscreens ourselves both of which are ok with the SS Anyway I spoke to Rod and he needs to do his part at frame stage, and it looks like that is when the soundscreens need to go in then too. What I'm wondering is how long did it take between finished frame and start of plaster? I'm worried we won't have time to get everything done before the builders are ready to move on to the next stage. If you did things yourself did you find you were pressed for time? Did your SS allow a day or two for you to get everything done before the plaster went up? I'm assuming Rod's stuff will take a day or 2 and then probably a day for the insulation - so I'm looking at about 3-4 days between frame and plaster that I will need. Possible? Cheers My karma ran over your dogma Re: Doing things yourself 2Nov 28, 2008 1:50 pm I am just up to this phase, the frame completed on 05Nov, then i told my SS that i need my electrican to do some wiring before plastering
He just made a few calls then come back with a possible date 21Nov for plastering, so that i can arrange my electrican to do any work before this date... i have about 10 days to organise and do anything But you know what, they still haven't put up the plaster and today is 28Nov, the plumbing and wiring only completed a few days ago and insulation just put in yesterday, so really depend on how quick they can complete all works for plastering Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Doing things yourself 4Nov 28, 2008 2:19 pm Yeah, my SS seems quite ok, i hope i will have him through the whole build.
I can see that he try to get my house completed the lock up stage before Christmas, just the tradies didn't turn up as their promise that frustrate him most. It will be a discussion between you and your SS. If he is aware that you are getting these things done then he might hold off the plastering in order for you to do it.
No reason why you can get it all done in a weekend. We did our cat 5 cabling, HT cabling and speaker wiring, Alarm system wiring plus all the soundscreen in two days plus a few hours on the Friday night. Wait until your frame starts and then have a talk (face to face) with your SS about it and see what he says. As for your question re time between frame and plaster ours was only the weekend. But it wasn't time between frame and plaster it was between the electricians and plasterers. The Electricians finished doing their thing on the Friday and the plasterers were due to come in on the Monday. The only reason the plasterers were delayed is that I picked up during that weekend that they had forgotten a few power points.
