Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 23, 2008 7:39 pm I have been looking at best ways of adding additional storage with our plan.
I have enquired with the builder the cost of adding on the following: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ With aluminium vinyl faced sliding doors it comes in at $4505.00 Does this seem a reasonable cost? I was thinking it wasnt too bad considering certain cupboard systems can run a few thousand dollars but then, what else can you do for $5000.. Ideally will be used for camping gear, power tools, xmas decorations etc. Nathan Re: Additional storage area on houseplan 2Nov 23, 2008 8:09 pm Looks like a good idea, but have you thought of just getting flat pack overhead cupboards mounted on the garage walls?

We have, however this would both look much cleaner and take up none of the garage as its positioned into the eaves albeit at a much more heftier price tag. Still im not not sure whether we will add it on or not. The space would come in very handy Nathan Re: Additional storage area on houseplan 4Nov 23, 2008 8:27 pm 5k seems very expensive, when I was at planning stage we looked at the same idea (Cupboard in the garage) at it was around 2k extra I think.
Just an idea, have you thought of asking how much it would cost to extend the garage an extra 600mm and then build your own storage space? Re: Additional storage area on houseplan 5Nov 23, 2008 10:22 pm I agree - get an estimate on increasing garage 500-600mm and then look at wall system (bunnings has a few good ones) - not only a bigger garage at resale will look better overall. Like you said $5 k buys a lot (not when you are building houses evidently) Re: Additional storage area on houseplan 6Nov 25, 2008 8:58 am Agree with the others about extending the garage area and fitting it out later- keeps your options open. We tried to do this and not have a garden shed but couldn't make it work.

Judie Re: Additional storage area on houseplan 9Nov 25, 2008 9:48 pm I just put together an Ikea wardrobe for our temporary dwelling. Very easy, versatile and amazingly cheap. Also noticed the groovy modular shed/workshop units at Bunnings (local hardware in SA).
I'm sure I'd just add the space during the build process and find my ideal storage solutions later. Which, I guess, means I agree with most of the others who have responded Re: Additional storage area on houseplan 10Nov 27, 2008 10:42 pm The estimate of $800 per m addon is pretty spot on. They also
