Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 27, 2008 10:43 am I have a full unopened pallet of bricks (approx 700) that I do not need. Does anyone know what is the best way to get rid of them. It would be good to get something back for them or at the very least not to have to pay to have them taken away. They are Austral Canterbury.
I could put a sign out the front saying free bricks but I'm a bit worried that might be inviting trouble as most of the people that would take them are probably the same ones stealing building materials in the estate to begin with... Re: left over bricks - how to get rid of 2Nov 27, 2008 11:15 am Have you thought about ebay or the classified section here? Someone might be looking for Austral Cantebury for a brick fence or landscaping for their house? If you advertise 'pick up only' you wouldn't need to worry! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... But for us it wasn't so much about the profit, more about the physical labour of someone else having to haul that pile of bricks away. On my ebay listing l was clear that they needed to bring their own tarp (as they had to come through my garage for access and l didn't want a mess) and their own wheelbarrow. Re: left over bricks - how to get rid of 8Nov 28, 2008 8:07 pm Are you sure you don't want them? Are you having a front fence? A path to the clothesline perhaps? Trims for the garden beds?
We have some bricks left over as well which we hope to use as part of our fence; if I knew how many extra we'd like to make it work like I want to I would make you an offer Mozzie, but I really don't know and may not for a while so I'd say ebay or Trading post would be your best bet. I'm sure there are lots of us Canterbury lovers out there looking for more bricks! Re: left over bricks - how to get rid of 9Nov 28, 2008 8:15 pm We were lucky even though we had about bricks less than 100(i guess) left over and it was gone another day so I guess people who cleaned the site took it!
But before throwing it away or selling it...re-consider. It could be useful in the future like for the garden or the facade... Re: left over bricks - how to get rid of 10Nov 28, 2008 8:19 pm Def sell them, m - Ebay!!!!
We've got 5,200 left over!!! ...but we're thrilled about that, we have lots of things we want to use them for. If you don't , though, sell them! Sell them!!! I think they're worth (retail) around $1 per brick (I stand to be corrected!) Can't remember how many are in a pallet....lots! Good luck Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: left over bricks - how to get rid of 11Nov 28, 2008 9:13 pm Thanks for the ideas everyone. Maybe I'll reconsider - the problem with bricks is you needs someone to lay them, which probably cost more than they're actually worth. I've got lots of paving, retaining walls and paths to do so perhaps I'll just bury them. If I ever need them at least I'll know where they are . Re: left over bricks - how to get rid of 13Nov 28, 2008 11:39 pm Don't get me started....
I spent about 4 days buying the inserts and all the stuff to do a brick letter box and building it. I got about half way through and then knocked it apart with a sledge hammer. Brick laying and building letterboxes is NOT easy. Also most bricklayers won't do them as they have to be done in at least a couple of stages and just aren't worth the effort. Trust me - it's far cheaper to buy a pre-cast conrete one. Re: left over bricks - how to get rid of 14Nov 29, 2008 8:56 am Oh really? sorry to hear that....i always thought it was a simple job of laying bricks...i mean its not an odd shape or anything you know ...but good that you told me now...... anyway i wasnt planning on to build one.
and yes we are planning to get the concrete mail box as well. you need a fridgie to answer but I would think you vac the whole system then add gas if you have a leak, unless it is new install with the gas already loaded, in that case… 1 3662 Old Home Restoration / Renovation Hi, just discovered all these junks left behind under the floor.
