Great goin' Loretta ! Will be interesting to see how your build speed compares to a volume builder . Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Loretta's new house - ****UPDATE 19 SEPTEMBER 09**** 64Sep 19, 2009 5:13 pm Well, we are pretty excited. After a tough week in reasonably hot weather, we have got the walls up for the lower level (ie sub floor). Our brickies are amazing. They have worked extra hard, they are fast and their work impeccable. Our engineer is so impressed he is going to start recommending them to his other clients. Sometimes it really pays to go with your gut feeling and not just who comes in with the cheapest quote. The next stage is the pouring of the slab for the garage and laying the steel bearers and joist for the first floor. I will try and post pics later but in the meantime i have updated the blog with pics. Great job so far Re: Loretta's new house - ****UPDATE 18 OCTOBER 09**** SLAB DOWN 70Oct 18, 2009 6:59 pm Its been a while since the last update and I apologise but we have been a little busy. However, we have the slab down - yay! it went down last weekend despite an incredible amount of rain. Our poor concreter was there till 9pm on Saturday night making sure it was ok. So far it looks great. We have filled in all the trenches around the sub floor and the next step is the order the steel (tomorrow) for the bearers and joists for the lower levels. our neighbours checking the slab out Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ the termite protection around the perimeters - kordon Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The walls are water proofed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ After all the rain we had our own swimming pool! We are building in Elderslie, near Camden but are renting in Illawong atm.I am very familiar with The shire as I grew up in Jannali. You are so lucky to be able to build in the area..wish we could have! Yes, ours has been challenging but we are getting there! My other half has amazed me with the amount of effort he has put in as an owner builder and on such a difficult site. and we are VERY lucky with our location. we were just saying that today. it is a beautiful part of the world. Congratulations on your build as well. Hopefully we will be all done before mid next year! Loretta Re: Loretta's new house - ****UPDATE 18 OCTOBER 09**** SLAB DOWN 73Oct 18, 2009 9:43 pm Yes owner building is very rewarding.I forgot to mention that we owner built a house many years ago & DH did a lot of the work himself, with the help of my dad.We lived in a caravan on the block with our 2 sons who were only 2 & 4 at the time, crazy I know! We didn't consider it this time as the banks are not as ob friendly nowadays!!! So well done to your other half I'm sure he will enjoy the experience.
